THE GREAT UNDRESSING
Death removes the religious and the spiritual costumes, the titles, the certificates, the attainments, the body image, the bank balance, the clever opinions, and the whole little theatre of specialness.
Not cruelly.
Just completely.
The body goes back to weather.
The name becomes sound.
The story fades from the room.
And whatever was real was never in the performance anyway.
Death does not negotiate with self-importance.
It says:
finished.
And strangely, that is merciful.
Because if specialness is the disease, death is one of the ways the body’s argument finally stops talking.
Meanwhile, before the appointment arrives, we can have a warm bed, clean dishes, a decent laugh, a quiet breath, and nothing left to prove.
