TIL #vyshyvanka is the traditional #embriodery of #Ukraine. i have been a bit obsessed with it. in #nyc you could find a lot of clothes with their distinct #redwork, but their needlework is in other colors, especially #blackwork.
btw: Palestinian’s #needlework is also incredible. #Tatreez is some of the most beautiful wearable art from the Middle East.
it guts me gringos want to destroy these two cultures; which have some of the oldest and most beautiful artisanal traditions.

Here's a shot of a vintage navy blue Kettle Creek Canvas shirtdress that I'm refreshing for #WipWednesday . Anybody remember them? It needed colour so all additions, including buttons are bright and multicoloured. I've changed the buttons, removed patch pockets, added belt loops, inset side pockets and a back kickpleat, lined the belt, and pinned on whimsical embellishments. Just started the multicoloured embroidery on the collar, more embroidery to come.

This yellow comes from wood chips — not a synthetic dye.
Same slow process, small batches, and a lot of testing to get it to this tone.
I love how it sits on Lugana — warm without going neon, soft without going flat.

Does anyone know of good digital collections for historical research re: textiles in early America (say, 1700s to early 1800s)?
I have a student doing a project based on needlework from this period. She has found a few print volumes with good images of needlework from the time, but I am wondering if there is a digital archive or collection out there that might be of use.
