Thanks to the handy woodworker types for giving me the confidence to get this into the house! The newly adopted free trash-picked table is in.

Now the real question is: the linen square, the German stars cutwork table runner, or the Armenian needle lace circle....?

I did my first #Carrickmacross lace this week. It's really an odd construction. You place pattern + netting + fine muslin in a sandwich and work through it all. Later you cut away either fabric or netting or both.

I don't have the right scissors, but otherwise I was able to do the beginner piece. Mistakes were made. But I liked it.

So, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away I accidentally bought a slew of vintage hats, as seen in the toot above.

And one of them was used to win a ribbon at the #BigE, our local state/New England fair.

I didn't expect to use this one--I thought it was going to be another. But I loved the pussy hat vintage vibes this gave me.

I was at the #RISD Museum yesterday to see the exhibit of #Philippines textiles made from pineapple fibers. But I walked down the hall and found this huge metal lace wall!

They call it needle lace but I'm pretty sure those are bobbin lace sections....?

Holy #BobbinLace Gods! Alex Stillwell has made a number of her really high quality books and pamphlets available for download.

At least one of them is really hard to find in print now. Someone in my lace group wanted a copy of that Floral Bucks Point and couldn't find it for sale.

TIL: there is a #needlelace massive table runner inspired by the #BayeuxTapestry in the #Smithsonian. Well, if we aren't selling off America on eBay yet, I guess it's still there.

We were invited to the Windham Textile and History Museum to have exhibit space (and some upcoming demos).

Action shots of the setup. We have cases of various laces, including #BobbinLace, #NeedleLace, #Tatting, and our #IpswichLace special mobile exhibit.

This week Maggie Hensel-Brown, an Australian #NeedleLace artist, revealed the complete #CommunityLacemaking project final installation at a museum.

400 lacemakers from around the world sent her leaves, which she assembled. Here's a look at it.

She crafted the open hands at the bottom, then stitched and beaded between the contributed leaves--some are gorgeous and some are clearly wonky beginner ones--into a huge funnel shape rising from the hands.

10th International Lace Day is coming up.

This is where we demonstrate that lace was not just in the 18th century--lacemakers are lacing today still! We carry on the historic knowledge and skills, and we do lace artistry in new ways.

Isabella Parasole published books of lace patterns (this one in 1597) that included this #Valentine motif.

She was an impressive and successful woman. Her husband took her name because hers was "more distinguished".

Today's inbound books are #NeedleLace books recommended to me during a recent work session for the #CommunityLacemaking project.

One of my favorite things about the #lace community is hearing about the best books that people really use and rely on. These were two that came up.

I put them in #Wikipedia on the Needlelace page as well.

I was watching a video about the #CommunityLacemaking project by Maggie Hensel-Brown, and the needle lacers offered a bunch of good texts about #needlelace stitches and styles.

After I quickly bought some used books... I added all of the ones I could find to the @wikipedia page.

And I absolutely love that 17th century unfinished project, so I added it to the page too.

Oh no. Now I'm obsessed with #NeedleLace. This was much easier and more fun than I expected. First practice leaf was underwhelming, but the second one was just flowing along.... She wants them in any condition, tho, so I'll send 'em both.

Now I want to make more leaves for the #CommunityLacemaking project.

This cravat was mounted near a painting of a woman with a similar lace around her upper arms. Not the same piece, but nice to see close up similar pieces.

One thing you can't get from photos sometimes is how textured laces are. These are very heavy floral edges--this is A LOT of stitching.

One thing I noticed: they now say "Maker once known". An interesting way to say we didn't used to care about women's work, names lost...

Ok, back to this thread, my images loaded up overnight. #MFABoston #lace items.

I saw some of the earliest lace pattern books. One by Isabella Parasole 1625, and one by Cesare Vecellio 1591. They are smaller than I thought from the online prints I've seen.

A third lace pattern book was in another case nearby. Domenico da Sera's 1543 "Ornamento de le belle e virtudiose donne". This book was new to me, needs to get into #Wikipedia...
