A #musiquinta desta semana é "sem letra", e eu vou-vos falar de #Inbrase.

No universo de #Anathem (um livro de #NealStephenson), "Inbrase" é um "auto", um ritual cantado "a capella". Em particular, o Inbrase é um auto para marcar o fim de uma pereguinação de alguém ao mundo exterior. Quando o peregrino regressa, ele canta uma pequena peça que reflicta o seu recomprometimento com a vida em seclusão.

Não sei se o Stephenson aprovaria que este título fosse dado à música de #kokori, mas foi certamente a inspiração que levou à criação da Inbrase dos kokori, e que acabou por se tornar peça fundamental para contar uma outra história no primeiro album da banda, #rootkit.

#SciFi in #NealStephenson's novel #Anathem #Voco is the ritual by which an #Avout is called forth to assist the secular power with something. A large spacecraft entering their solar system, for instance.

Good book, but that comes to mind each time I see the Voco adjacent to our little airport here.

#Phosphorus was once extracted by boiling large quantities of somewhat aged #urine.
A fictional account is in #NealStephenson's #BaroqueTrilogy. 2nd volume IIRC

Quite fun.

Less fun is that our next problem is a world shortage of Phosphorus/Phosphate for #fertiliser.

One of these days I'm going to take the time to write up, with examples, an explanation of why I think the books of Neal Stephenson and Jim Butcher function as fan lit for incels and redpilled men. It took me a while to see it, but that's partly because I was reading these books while those reactionary fascism-adjacent (and pipeline) movements were being built, and as I was developing my own political morality.

But yeah. It's hard to read those anymore, especially Stephenson. Once I saw the patterns, I couldn't unsee them.

Edit: And this has made me sad for a few years, because both of those authors write stories I like, in ways I like. Well, Stephenson can't finish a story to save his life, but he's really good at the beginning and middle parts, and that was plenty for me, for many years.

I’m re-reading Cryptonomicon, by #NealStephenson, and while some of it has aged poorly, other parts hold up pretty well. Or am I too close to the protagonist to see the *other* bits that don’t hold up?
