  1. Today + tomorrow I'm at the @dmidk #NCKF Danish #climate symposium. It's always a good opportunity to catch up with old friends and brilliant new research. This year, we are also launching a Danish climate status #klimastatus report. #NCKF25

  2. New preprint just landed in @EGUsphere for #TheCryosphere - it's about our fieldwork in NW #Greenland near Qaanaaq - so if you're interested in #glaciers, calving, #icebergs and melange go check it out...
    #NCKF

(May blog it later if I get time, still trying to finalise another paper for resubmission #ScienceNeverSleeps

📊 On 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹.𝗱𝗸, Danish research institutions share up-to-date monitoring and expert knowledge on the state of the Arctic cryosphere.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻:
    • Surface conditions on the Greenland Ice Sheet and its major outlet glaciers
    • Total mass balance of the Greenland Ice Sheet and its contribution to global sea-level
    • Sea ice extent, thickness and volume in the Arctic
    • Temperature anomalies of sea ice and the open sea in the Arctic
    • Icebergs around Greenland

The portal is powered by the Danish research institutions #DMI, #GEUS, #DTUSpace and #DTUByg and supported by data from #Asiaq - Misissueqqarnerit - Grønlands Forundersøgelser and #PROMICE (promice.org/).

  4. Zooming into this (present day) worst case scenario for a storm surge in #Copenhagen to check if I'm going to become proud owner of a beach front property...

Nice work from my DMI #NCKF colleagues on how to plan for #seaLevelRise and #ClimateAdaptation

  5. The hidden structure that makes modern life bearable. And indeed possible.

And how to #climateproof it from Copenhagen's utility on managing urban sewers at DMI's #NCKF symposium today

This is what #ClimateAdaptation looks like.

  6. Kicking off European polar science week with a fringe event at DMI in collaboration with the APECS organization of #ECRs on how to write proposals...

  7. The great Scandinavian drought of 2018 cost Danish agriculture alone ~ EUR 550million - what are the prognoses for the future?

Great talk by our #NCKF PhD student Rüben Haberli on high res convection permitting #ClimateModel simulations to understand #drought in #Scandinavia
    #HCLIM #NMM2024

  8. Our #NCKF PhD Dina Rapp talking about her latest work on using advanced statistics on old weather observations and satellite data from #Greenland.

  10. What do #Climate activists need from #ClimateScience?
A brave choice to invite the Danish green student movement to the #NCKF symposium - but actually quite moving to see how much science they use. (They may be the only people in the world to have read the #IPCC reports from start to finish...

  11. Now at the #NCKF symposium: "What do climate activists need from climate science?" with Elise Sydendal and Gorm Nissen from the Danish Green Youth Movement.

  12. The problem with rainfall and urban hydrology:
In this figure, the DMI radar captures a band of intense rainfall the hardly appears on rain gauges...

Søren Liedtke Thorndahl of Aalborg University on #UrbanHydrology at the #NCKF symposium...

  13. Another interesting subject at the #NCKF symposium: #ClimateAttribution from another brilliant #WomenInSTEM - Jordis Tradowsky from MetNorway..

Appropriate given #Copenhagen currently also experiencing #WeatherExtreme flooding of the metro..
    #ClimateDiary

  14. Whenever I get depressed about the slow progress of #WomenInSTEM - I remember that at least in #Copenhagen we have some brilliant female scientists in the #Climate #IceSheet space + today #NCKF have gathered 3 of them together in a single session, from left to right Shuting Yang of @dmidk, Christine Hvidberg of the Niels Bohr Institute and Louise Sandberg Sørensen of @dtuspace ...

  15. The changing #Greenland #IceSheet from @esaclimate data prepared and presented by @dtuspace ' Louise Sandberg Sørensen at the #NCKF symposium today.

The satellites measure the gradual progression of surface lowering (in red colours) since the 1990s to eventually cover almost the whole of the ice sheet margin.

  20. Jason Box is now talking about #PROMICE data in #CARRA (#Copernicus #Arctic Regional #Reanalysis) and using the latest insights for understanding the #Greenland #IceSheet

The trend shows increasing #precipitation but not #snow - it's falling as #rain...
    #NCKF

  21. I think this is really cool work - including downstream effects of #WindEnergy onto #Weather #NWP models fro #DTU - part of #NCKF

  22. Today the #Danish #ClimateScience community is getting together to plot future #resesrch directions. Our #DMIDk #NCKF head Adrian Lema points out the urgency of the challenge -we're at 1.1C #climateChange on our way to 2C + the #NDCs assuming governments meet them are on for ~2.6C. What will this mean for #Denmark?
