From NCDOT NC12 on FB: Good morning! NC12 remains OPEN and passable through Hatteras, with sand and water on the road in several locations.

NC12 remains CLOSED on the north end of Ocracoke Island due to hazardous conditions from ocean overwash.

NCDOT crews will be out today shoring up dune lines and clearing secondary roads.

That being said, there is a chance that tidal conditions will worsen today due to long form waves from Hurricane Melissa, which will be passing well to our east today and tomorrow.

As always, please slow down, drive carefully, and give our crews room to work.
