  1. The local Borough Council has proposed a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to tackle antisocial behaviour, and it references cycling. Fortunately though, a straight ban on town centre riding is not on the cards!

  6. Happy with that! Two Green councillors and Labour control for Nuneaton and Bedworth. Congratulations to all! Hopefully we can see a change in direction, and a bit more positivity from the the new Council.

  11. Typical comment from the motornormative Tories at #NBBCouncil where they cannot see the cross-cutting benefits from providing better cycling infrastructure, including health, wellbeing, environment - and yes, economic too.

So, we’ll carry on with too many cars and all their ills.

  16. Scrapping the planned new multistorey carpark would be a good start for cost saving. The town centre already has two MSCPs inside the ring-road and other surface level CPs. It's not that big a town + driving shouldn't be encouraged

  21. This is the leader of #NBBCouncil, Councillor Kris Wilson (Cons), demonstrating the typical outdated, anti-cycling attitude common to the local Tories. They are actively standing in the way of providing safer routes for vulnerable road users and enabling modal shift for local journeys.

  26. Last year they renamed of part of #Nuneaton's ring-road, formerly the Roanne Ringway, to Jubilee Way. Now Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council want to rename another traffic sewer, Coton Road, to King Charles Road.

Not only is this an ill-judged waste of money and time, massively inconveniencing residents and businesses whose addresses are affected (including themselves) but they don't even include the 'III' in the name!

  37. The amount of #plastic tat being pushed at events attracting a crowd is abhorrent in its wastefulness. Think of the resources going into making, shipping this junk, and for what? To be played with for five minutes before being thrown away. Even worse those that have electronics in them. There's absolutely no need.

It puts a downer on events like #Nuneaton's #ChristmasLights switch-on this evening. The Council should prohibit it. But it won't. #NBBCouncil

  42. Potential FoI request for early next year, I think.

With the local council saying there's no free parking this year, doesn't this serve as an ideal opportunity to evaluate the impact of such schemes? I wonder if they have data on the number of people use car parks last year (free parking) which can be compared to usage this year (charged parking).

If data exists, we could compare town centre footfall overall as well.

  47. Good to see some sense from #NBBCouncil - no free #CarParking in #Nuneaton and #Bedworth this year!

I never understand why free parking is generally such a thing over the Christmas period. With all the shopping, what's an extra few pounds to park the car? Why should there be yet another driving subsidy? (I can see the conundrum when neighbouring towns ARE offering it though).

Of course, you can guess how the FB comments are all going on this! Must. Not. Antagonise! 😂
