The last day of camping, it's time to tare down the tent. The broom and dust pan must were left home. That means, the pain in the ass tent must be pitched in the backyard, so the leaves, seeds, dirt and dead bugs, mostly flies can be swept, before packing the tent for storage.

After painting a glorious sunrise and as the air warmed, the butterflies became active. I went about collecting a few butterflies and beetles. As I did, the ever present flies swarmed. My naked hides saving grace, a good coat of insect repellent. So many flies were unusual, I think the flies were there because of the elk. You can see the swarming flies, white dots, in the one photo.

After pitching my tent, I got to work painting. Above, thunderhead billowed, drifting east. Their massive forms slowly began to glow golden with the setting sun. Behind me, an elk in the forest cried warning. The meadow may have been where they bedded down, but now I occupied it. When it was too dark to paint, I set up my sheets and UV light and waited for the moths and other night insect to visit the light. It was a good night of insect collecting.
