“[The author has] already discussed ancient water management systems, such as the qanats in Persia and other Eastern countries. In Europe, there are the acequias of the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia, Spain.
The hand-dug channels date back over 1,000 years to the Moorish era. Networks of canals, aqueducts and cisterns were engineered to capture and transport snowmelt, turning this natural resource into a sustainable water supply for agriculture. The high-altitude ditches had openings, allowing water to infiltrate into fractures and faults, replenishing the aquifer, and to irrigate the lower levels of the slopes.

✅ Gravity-fed irrigation that supported terraced farms and local biodiversity.
✅ Designed to distribute water slowly and equitably, even during dry summers.
✅ Stretching over thousands of kilometres, these systems fell into disuse in the 1980s but are now part of restoration efforts led by the MEMOLA Project (Universidad de Granada).
With climate change and more intense droughts, the Acequias could provide an ancient solution to the modern-day water crisis…”

  3. Thanks to Malthus, we have focused on food as the limit to population growth. For some reason, we have failed to consider how demands on other resources may have limits that we cannot afford to cross.

  9. Arguably Australia's most precious asset.
The largest and deepest confined #freshwater #aquifer on Earth 1,700,000 square kilometers.
    Let's look after it 🙏

Unlike some #OilMonarchy or #Oligarchy, the #USA does not have the amount of #NaturalResource to export to not cause a coup government not die amidst the then sharp decline in quality of living.

Only #water is used more often as a #naturalresource than sand (and gravel). The demand for sand keeps rising and has three-folded over the last two decades. Hence, sand has become the most mined material in the world. (3)

Yes commercial value. Basically if one were to #rent, or is, renting out the #land, how much would they get? #Tax that value.

It needs to be done, but among the #breadAndCircuses this issue is not to be seen or heard.

If the land has a natural resource that #thePeople say should be utilised and isn't, then all known land with that valuable resource would be taxed a bit extra to help pay for a #subsidy to gather that #naturalResource.
