Our forest cover is woeful compared with European average. Why not properly regulate our investment in forests, improve the silviculture & hence biodiversity. Oh, & '#NativeForest is commercial too, given #CarbonCredits

Forestry contractors convicted of 2020 assaults in Wild Cattle Creek State Forest

"TWO forestry contractors have been found guilty of assaulting two men in Wild Cattle Creek State Forest on 25 June 2020 by Coffs Harbour Local Court. Mark Graham and Andre Johnston, who were assaulted on a public road in the State Forest north of Dorrigo, have been seeking justice for more than three years."

Magistrate fines earthmoving contractor $79k over koala deaths at Victorian bluegum plantation.

"A south west Victorian forest and earth moving business has been convicted and fined nearly $80,000 after hundreds of koalas were found in poor health or dead on a private property in 2020."

"The erection of a fence around the site prevented the koalas from escaping the heavy machinery works. He just did what he was contracted to do. He was not aware that he has any obligations … in relation to koalas or koala spotting."

A Paris Agreement for nature?

Sydney will be the host for the first Global N a t u r e P o s i t i v e Summit in early October 2024. It is is concerned with the financialisation of biodiversity ecosystems.

"The “Nature Positive” agenda promotes the financialisation of nature – that there is a monetary value to nature, that this dollar figure could define all that nature means to us, and that we can start trading plots of nature like tokens and feeding into an ecosystem service that only benefits some people, in particular economies."

“The decision makers for all of this would be the exact same industry players and politicians who are destroying nature for profit now. Nature Positive” would be a bag of tricks for them to d i s t r a c t, d e f e r , and o b s c u r e their h a r m for n a t u r e : “destroying your forest is okay, because we’re not destroying someone else’s.” This is not only greenwashing, it is dangerous."

Australia is at a turning point
250 years of extinctions and degradation is enough.
