This is my favourite part of Grovely Wood - 2 miles of beech avenue escorting a former Roman road. It completely captivated me the first time* I walked out into it - an inexplicable sense of the old trees acting as sentinels, waiting, watching and bearing witness.

*I took this photo a few weeks later. No photos at the time of first encounter; I was absorbed in looking and didn't want the mediation of a glass rectangle.

Morning Mastodon. Or the bit of it that can see this. For today’s photo for #NationalTreeWeek an iconic shot from the Cairngorms National Park. It might be a Scots Pine - the only truly native UK pine - but I’m not 100% sure. #Scotland #scottishhighlands #CairngormsNationalPark #PineTree #TreeRoots #CaledonianForest

Portrait of an Oak tree for #ThickTrunkTuesday and #NationalTreeWeek
This is Wickwar's "Old Electric Oak" (10.55m girth, 800+ years old). It has survived several attempts to destroy it to accommodate overhead high voltage cables - burning in 1938, severe pollarding in 1970s & it was almost felled in 2017. Now protected by fencing to stop its roots being compacted, it will hopefully survive many more years.
