Aah! Here's a mention from a few days ago from a website I follow.

"The Bill introduces a set of new criminal offences. Any person who “support[s], assist[s] and obtain[s] material benefits” from a ‘designated’ body could face up to 14 years in prison per offence. Material benefits include information. This could mean that a journalist interviewing someone from within a designated group, or obtaining materials from such a group, could fall foul of the new law."

So basically a #NationalSecurityBill has been pushed through parliament will become law this month. It will stifle free speech, in particular #journalism by making it a criminal offence to receive information from official state enemies, regardless of what the intended use of that information is.

And today is the first time I've heard of it and I've not seen it reported anywhere.

The past two days have seen two Council of Europe Safety of Journalists Platform alerts documenting serious threats to media freedom in the UK, the first a Level 2 alert following the recent arrest of three journalists reporting on Just Stop Oil protests and the second a Level 1 alert relating to the UK government's National Security Bill.

There are *no* exceptions to the prohibition of #torture & other ill-treatment. It is unconscionable that the British Government might shield ministers or officials from accountability for assisting murder & torture, or prevent victims of torture from receiving compensation.
