  1. I think the #GreenParty should spin its proposed #SpeedLimit policy slightly differently - and just say "we will reassess all speed limits on #UK #roads, selecting maximums of 50 to 60 mph where appropriate" this enables use of existing road signs and limits that drivers are familiar with, isn't wildly different from what local Councils and #NationalHighways / #TrafficScotland / #TransportForWales are doing anyway, gives #gammons a less obvious headline than unusual 55 mph limit and they don't have that long attention spans..

Incidentally I've now been driving 7 years and even in that relatively short time I've seen multiple rural roads across #Suffolk and #Essex change limits from 60 mph to 40-50 mph - all areas with Conservative Councils!

  2. Good work by #lorry driver - keeping occupants of small car that has broken down on "smart" #motorway safe and calling nines so #Police and #NationalHighways are aware - it took 5 mins on 999 call, and 13 further minutes for National Highways to arrive on scene, and #drivers are barely noticing stationary lorry (further ahead the matrix sign is showing "national speed limit", which suggests there has already been a restriction on previous signs so drivers are likely trying to accelerate to get back to 70mph (112 km/h)

These smart #motorways are not safe (thankfully there are no further ones being built)

  3. #NationalHighways (the #traffic authority for #motorways and fast #highways in #England and #Wales ) had better luck catching them #swans - officers are now trained to do this and keep #swan bags in the vans (the officer who caught the swan had already done this 3 times before in 7 years)

  4. Eight-hour clean-up after cooking oil spill on A11

Crews undertook an almost eight-hour clean-up operation after cooking oil leaked across four miles (6.4km) of the A11. The road has been shut between Attleborough and Larling, Norfolk, since about 18:30 BST on Saturday. National Highways said the spillage was cleared by 02:00…

  5. I somewhat reluctantly installed paid version of #TomTom Go app on #Android (it was on discount, probably as TomTom are on the ropes) I've got a few long drives coming up and #OSM lacks warnings of the average speed cameras on #A12 in #Essex (alas, I have 0 idea how to accurately add them or if you could even get the data from #NationalHighways (presumably it is possible as TomTom has them)

It works fairly well (other than missing route bar on #AndroidAuto which TomTom and Google are struggling to fix) and does pick up my POIs from existing Tomtom cloud.

I'm not sure of the future of the company, they laid off loads of their staff (probably where #MagicEarth, also based in NL is getting their devs from) and their website and update servers barely work. #GNSS #satnav

  6. #Regulation works: Two #USA #tech companies as well as #Tomtom are going to alter voice instructions on #satnav apps after His Majesty's #Coroner warned that unclear instructions may have contributed to a double #fatal #collision in #MiltonKeynes SE #England #driving #GNSS #RoadSafety and #NationalHighways have already altered road layout to discourage drivers entering the slip road in the wrong direction..

  7. Had a look at the local #election results for this semi rural area - until recently folk *consistently* voted #Conservative, for "small government / low taxes" and #Greens are even less popular than Reform - now they are whinging because nature is fighting back (especially as #NationalHighways neglected maintaining the drains, although folk would have also complained about road closures) #Bedfordshire #A421 #floods #weather
