  1. Today's lectionary didn't get the memo about the National Day of Prayer. The Psalms are lament. Leviticus measures holiness by how we treat the immigrant. Matthew tells us not to worry. A look at what our tradition already quietly accomplishes at: notd.io/n/DayofPrayer2026 #NationalDayofPrayer #Prayer #Lectionary #TraditionRemixed #FunctioningFaith #EpiscopalChurch

  3. ground.news/article/sudanese-r My #EpiscopalChurch has sponsored & supported several #Sudanese #refugees over the years, including a now priest (who is one of my favorite people & the only ordination I’ve attended since Covid) Few, if any, of the families we’ve helped settle in the U.S. are thinking of returning to #Sudan this story reminds us of the importance of welcoming #immigrants & of #home These are people who have fled #war & #famine as the Israelites did in the Old Testament. These are people seeking a better life & future for themselves & their families. When we call for an end to #immigration we forget that our forbears were all #immigrants at some point. We forget that we are called to welcome others as we were welcomed. On the #NationalDayofPrayer let us all pray for the grace to welcome strangers, seeing in them our future friends.

    May 4, 2023: Someone praying

    “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946)

Apparently Jimmy Stewart’s tears in this scene were unscripted and unexpected.

“As I said those words,” Stewart said in 1977, “I felt the loneliness, the hopelessness of people who had nowhere to turn, and my eyes filled with tears. I broke down sobbing. That was not planned at all.”

  5. #Bales2023FilmChallenge May 4: Someone praying on (for?) #NationalDayOfPrayer

Simón is a stylite, living in the Syrian #desert on top of a pillar, close to God, #praying. As with anyone who believes in sin, or desires to be free of sin, sin comes to Simón, as this is #Buñuel's Simón del desierto [San Simeón del desierto aka Simon of the Desert] (1965).
