Well you get one yеar for climbing trees, you get another one for catching bees
Onе year for spontaneity, you get another one for curiosity
One year for exploration, you get another one for imagination
One year for exuberance, you get another one for innocence
Two years for ingenuity, you can serve 'em all consecutively

  6. "Eleven years after the #TRC’s final report, #reconciliation remains unfinished work. The #residentialschool system caused lasting harm to #Indigenous families and communities. Reconciliation requires more than acknowledging that history. It requires action to address the #inequalities that remain today." yellowknifer.com/2026/09/28/el

  10. I screened a #documentary tonight for the #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation called #YouCanCallMeRoger.

What began as a retirement video for longtime chief #RogerAugustine became something much bigger when revelations of mass unmarked graves of #Indigenous children came to light during the production of the video.

We hear from a diverse set of voices including several chiefs, and even former prime minister of canada Paul Martin.

If you're interested in learning about the horrors of the #canadianResidentialSchoolSystem, this film has several first-hand accounts. The film is equal parts horrifying and enraging, and uplifting and inspiring.

"The day of memorial is marked in Canada each year on Sept. 30, where it is formally known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and is increasingly observed in communities in the United States." npr.org/2025/09/30/nx-s1-55525

  15. I noticed this sign posted on the fence of the memorial church, which hadn't been there in the spring. Juxtaposed next to the building that was healing for some while wounding for others, I feel like it embodies the way we move towards full reconciliation: navigating the both/and of so many human experiences; doing so imperfectly; yet, with a commitment to keep showing up to the conversation.

Because it was not okay; it was never okay. 6/7

  16. In Canada, even before #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation was established, Sept 30 was marked as #OrangeShirtDay, to acknowledge--and in the case of white people, to own up to & make amends for--the harm and trauma of #ResidentialSchools to Indigenous children and their families. It was not okay; it was never okay. 5/7

  17. Sometimes that reality check comes in the form of a building reconstruction, and navigating the differing perspectives in that process. Sometimes it's renaming a neighbourhood or sports team, regardless of its sentimental value to white people. Sometimes it's returning silenced voices to our history books. Sometimes it's the discovery of over 1,000 unmarked graves of Indigenous children who never came home. 4/7

  18. I stood there on Treaty 7, the same treatied land where I grew up. Unbeknownst to me as a child, residential schools still operated alongside my own (I was in high school when the last one was shut down).

So as an adult, I think it's important that white people, and those of settler origins, are confronted with the realities of our past, so we can continue to move towards full and authentic reconciliation. 3/7

Today, September 30, is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, a time to recognize and commemorate the intergenerational harm that residential schools caused to Indigenous families and communities, and to honour those who have been affected by this injustice. »»»

  20. National day of Truth and Reconciliation today. Been listening to the radio at work as they share stories from native people who've been to, or had relatives who've been to residential schools. Also stories from native people in sports and entertainment.

When I have some time I've also been remembering what my mom told me about her time in residential schools and it's incredible how strong she was.

  21. A quick reminder that 150 000 native american children were sent to residential schools in Canada. 6000 of which died...or should I say we're murdered. The least we can do as Canadian is to recognise National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and mostly the first nations, their history, their culture, their languages and dialects and who they are as a whole. #canada #CanadaPolitics #CanadaNews #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation

  22. Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation here in Canada. Should be a month, at least a week but a day is OK for now. Here's one of my favourite Indigenous artists, Melody McArthur (with Tyler Letendre) and 'I Don't Think I Love You Anymore'.
