60 years ago today, the #Aberfan disaster killed 144 people when spoil tips collapsed into the village.
This was no accident. It was wilful neglect of repeated warnings, & multiple breaches by the #NationalCoalBoard of its own rules.
Nobody was charged with any crime. The #NCB chairman #LordRobens lied about the NCB's foreknowledge, but kept his chair & peerage & huge salary & perks until 1971. 😡
#Robens ensured that the NCB stole from the victims: £2.5 million in today's money.

"Palace of Gold" was #LeonRosselson's response to the #Aberfan disaster. 59 years ago today, 116 children and 28 adults were killed a spoil heap collapsed at 9.15am, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and a row of houses.
The #AberfanDisaster happened because #NationalCoalBoard safety guidelines had been ignored and warnings dismissed. Rosselson's finest song lays bare the #classPolitics of disdain for the safety of #workingClass children.
IIRC Software Projects got into some amount of hot water for using the NCB (National Coal Board) logo on the boot at the lower left in this image. I seem to recall a conversation w/Alan Maton (Software Projects MD) about this when I mentioned to him that I’d done my basic underground training at various South Yorkshire pits, in a previous life.
