I still have pictures of the good food I have had on my trip to post, but being in Arctic Norway again, I must complain.

The last good meal I had on my trip was in Luleå on the 1st of August, a vegan version of the Swedish national dish - kebab pizza, with a pizza salad of course (white cabbage + vinaigrette), yes, Swedes eat salad with their pizzas. Luleå has no vegan restaurants so I was happy Pizzeria Pepperoni had something for me. The pizza master is a Bosnian guy who came as a refugee during the war. Also had leftovers for dinner.

Then I checked the menu on the SJ train from Boden to Narvik and when I saw 2 vegan wraps, a vegan bowl, and another vegan dish, I didn't feel pressure to buy food. I am carrying around 25kg anyway.

Well, they didn't have any vegan meals on the train. "Oh we did have them on the train from Stockholm". So I bought salted cashews, like 30g and a small bag of crisps. I only ate the cashews.

I did find a vegan burger in Narvik, in an American style diner run by a Bulgarian couple, but, if you remember from the last year, I am fed up with vegan burgers because many restaurants only offer vegan burgers and no other vegan food. And those realistic meat imitations freak me out.

Luckily, on rail.ninja I found out going by #SJ via #Stockholm and #Umeå to #Narvik and taking the buss from there seems a faster and cheaper solution.
But on SJs page it says I can't buy tickets because there is work going on on the tracks :-(

My bus is cancelled because of the Arctic race (can't you people race somewhere where you won't disturb the public transport, seriously?) I had to check out at 11 and I have to wait until almost 16. So I am in the Narvik library 😍

I love how libraries in Scandinavia truly serve the community. In some cities I couldn't even enter the library as a non-resident (Brussels, Florence) but in Scandinavia I can plug in my computer, use the Wi-Fi, bet they'd let me even borrow books if I told them I'd be staying in the city for a few days.

Libraries in larger cities are also makerspaces, they have sewing machines, 3D printers, in Oslo library one can extrude plastic waste into new products, digitise VHS tapes, etc... They have musical instruments so children whose parents can't afford to buy one can still learn to play.

My first train for today is the :kb_kurswagen: through carriage from 🇸🇪 #Lulea to the #OreRailway into the #ArcticCircle train with #TeamOpenWindows, an amazing panorama and of course : tasty brunch in the @diningcar 😋.

An #SJ #Rc4 electric is hauling the consist on this photo taken in August 1985. With an #Interrail ticket in my pocket, I travelled by train from #Stockholm 🇸🇪 to #Narvik 🇳🇴, a ride of over 1,500 kilometres.
One can still do this today: the voyage currently lasts about 19 hours.

An #SJ #Rc4 electric is hauling the consist on this photo taken in August 1985. With an #Interrail ticket in my pocket, I travelled by train from #Stockholm 🇸🇪 to #Narvik 🇳🇴, a ride of over 1,500 kilometres.
One can still do this today: the voyage currently lasts about 19 hours.

Tag 20 von 42, Teil 2: Erzbahn, die Zweite 🚞

Mit dem Nachtzug geht es wieder auf die Erzbahn, also die Bahnstrecke Luleå–Narvik, die vornehmlich dem Transport von Eisenerz an den eisfreien Atlantikhafen dient. Ich fahre aber nur bis Kiruna, wo ich mich zwei Tage einquartiere.
