So I forgot to say at the time, but I finished the first draft of this on the 30th of January - weighed in at 121,508 words.
I actually finished writing a book. :)

I have defeated #NaNoWriMo2023 so I guess now I can go back to gaming in the evening instead, heh.
I wrote a potential comic idea, going to have to see if I want to approach that in 2024 or what. I DO want to do some comic art at some point it's just a matter of if I pick up an old idea again or do a new one. Something to think about!

I won! I finally reached 50k in my pirates & barbarians swashbuckling fantasy adventure for #NaNoWriMo - at 2:25am! Here's my reward box which I wisely opened after some sleep! Love the note from my wife & the very appropriate chill-out tea rather than my usual super-dense coffee. And yes, that is a party popper!

The draft isn't complete yet. I reckon there are another 25,000 words to go. I'll write those at a less intense level over the next few weeks. Words to Go: 727The hope was to finish last night but sleep took me a little too quickly. Still! Just three little digits to go and another victory is mine!
One of the benefits of really letting the story breathe this time is it gives me a chance to establish my new characters and find thier voice in a way I've not really been as successful at in my other stories.
Even if it means a near-50,000 word act one.

I have been semi-secretively beavering away at NaNo (National Novel Writing Month to everyone else) in the corner - and I have passed 50,000 this evening.
Very pleased given this is the first time I have properly attempted it since about 2014.
Of course, I estimate there's still about 45,000 words left to go in this novel, but that's not the point right? :P

#NaNoWriMo2023 Day 27: I made it to over 50K words. Are all those words worth saving to wedge into K-Rave? No, not really. Was it beneficial to practice dictation every day? Most definitely. From the Full Hunter’s Moon to the Full Beaver’s Moon I’ve been writing & it felt good.

Words to Go: 2,431The finishing line is in sight! It's kind of wild, because I genuinely wasn't sure this year if I was going to get through it.
The fun fact of the day is that part of the story takes place in a ballet school, but I made the very smart decision to not actually check a ballet school syllabus or do proper research until today.
By complete luck I'm not wrong enough to have to rewrite this part of the plot!

Words to Go: 4,150We're so desperately close, and the crazy thing is I'm still kind of in the first act. 45,000 words on the first third of the story.
It has been important though, as whilst I am very reliant on dialogue so far, much of it is helping me shape my ideas for what will come out of the story as a whole once I completely rewrite it.

Words to Go: 5,892We're definitely on the end stretch here! Not in terms of story, which honestly feels like it's not even properly started yet, but certainly in terms of word count.
A lot of these last few days has really been focused on worldbuilding that will likely end up taking a completely different form when I finally get around to finishing this.
Ah well, part of the fun of process!

Words to Go: 7,627Okay, so this was a wierd case of writing something that needs not only extensive editing but extensive framing, as it's basically a lot of exposition for an eponymous location in the book.
With that said, it was really useful to get the ideas out as they helped me figure out how the final act is even going to work!
Also I was up to the wire with writing this today after burning myself out the last week or so. I can taste the finish!

I've spent a lot of the day catching up on my #Nanowrimo2023 word count after not writing for the past 2 days. I had to put my foot down with my husband and told him I needed to write. In previous years, he's sabotaged my Nanos by claiming 'family time'. Not this year.
