I bought some smart string lights from #Nanoleaf. I love the effects and it uses Matter over Wifi, so of course I connected them to #HomeAssistant. Unfortunately this only allows me to turn them on/off, set a single color for all the lights and set the brightness. I can't start any effects/scenes from Home Assistant. I guess I'll have to use the Nanoleaf app for that.

Does anyone know what smart RGB LED bulbs (and other lights) are the best? My requirements are that the bulbs are bright and work completely offline, ideally they can work with self-hosted software like @homeassistant

Ich habe mir endlich die #Nanoleaf 4D LED-Strippen geholt. Fuer einen 65-incher kosten die ca. US$99 und damit nur 1/3 dessen, was Philips fuer seine Hue Ambient aufruft.

Was soll ich sagen, das Ergebnis ist sensationell und insgesamt habe ich ne knappe Stunde gebraucht, um die vernuenftig an die Rueckseite zu pappen und einzurichten.

Kommt auf jeden Fall auch an meinen Gaming-Monitor.

We’ve had 3 different #Nanoleaf kits for several years and not one of them works correctly. The hardware is great but the software is a hot mess. Tech support is responsive but cannot resolve the issues. Very disappointing.

Уверен, что практически все наши читатели сталкивались с неожиданным поведением обычных устройств. Вроде бы должно работать, но на каком-то этапе происходит сбой, а документация не дает никакого ответа. Так недавно произошло со мной. Так что искренне надеюсь, что этот небольшой пост на Хабре сэкономит немало времени и нервов тем, кто решит настроить модульное освещение Nanoleaf и в процессе столкнется с ошибкой, когда контроллер отказывается добавляться в систему умного дома.

Anyone else having trouble with Nanoleafs in Home Assistant?

Having two Nanoleafs: 1 Hexagon Shapes and 1 Lines. Since a couple of weeks (obviously I dont know what (I) changed... I would say: nothing 🤣), they dont work anymore via Home Assistant (and their own App).

My Access Point still says, they are connected via wifi without any trouble. ICMP Echo Requesting them, works fine (dont know which service I could check).

Thing is, out of the sudden, Home Assistant thinks, they are reachable via IPv6 (some ULA Address, not my IPv6 and that Subnet even doesnt have IPv6).

That Home Assistant Issue pointed me to mDNS: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/131643

Home Assistant seems to use https://github.com/milanmeu/aionanoleaf library which doesnt correctly parse IPv6/Port things.

Im wondering, if anyone else having some strange behavior with Nanoleaf and mDNS in their network?

Just trying to figure out whats going on and it doesnt look like its only a bad library in Home Assistant (there is definitely a Bug in parsing IPv6 addresses) but some Nanoleaf Network Issues. As I mentioned: Nanoleafs sometimes doesnt report their IPv4 Address via mDNS - but still are reachble via ICMP.
