#Meta Sued Over #Training Data for Its #AI and #FaceRecognition Systems
The proposed class action alleges Meta illegally harvested people’s #Facebook and #Instagram photos to train its AI image-generation models and to build its unreleased “NameTag” face recognition feature.

So, if you weren’t mad about #Meta enabling kiddie diddlers with their nudity apps and stealing your kid’s pictures to populate these #csam apps, how do you feel knowing that they’ve scraped every #instagram and #facebook post to feed their facial recognition and #biometric capture capabilities.
The 66-page complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleges Meta used images depicting both users and non-users to train and test facial recognition technology known internally as #NameTag; to generate facial templates for the system; and to develop image-generation models including #Emu and #MuseImage.
Really y’all, a butlerian jihad is starting to look like the only rational response to the kakistocratic oligarchy.

#Meta executives initially denied the existence of a #facialrecognition feature, #NameTag, in their #AIGlasses. However, CTO Andrew Bosworth later described the feature in detail, contradicting previous statements. The feature, which would be encrypted and localised to the user’s device, aims to help users remember people they’ve met, addressing the “cocktail party problem.“ https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/meta-exec-describes-facial-recognition-feature?

⚠️ Faceprint is likely making a come-back, making our faces in public places vulnerable to non-consensual scans, biometric identification and save on remote devices, potentially looked over by 3rd party contractors for content moderation.
⚠️ Meta's internal documents (as reported by Wired, EFF and others) suggest the use of volatile political situation to hoodwink the consumer rights advocates - "shock doctrine" in action.

"The discovery of #NameTag in the live #MetaAI app shows that Meta had begun shipping face-recognition code to users' phones while publicly describing it as something the company was still “thinking through.” In April, Meta said if it were to utilize face recognition, it wouldn't be rolled out without first taking "a very thoughtful approach." But WIRED found that as early as January, core components of the system had been […] distributed to millions of people."

75 organizations are raising the alarm about Meta's Name Tag automated facial recognition technology, calling the feature an "unacceptable threat to privacy and liberty."
Meta is considering 2 possible versions, one would only recognize existing contacts on Meta's platforms, the second could identify anyone with a public account on services like Instagram. https://qz.com/aclu-meta-ray-ban-face-recognition-smart-glasses #Meta #ACLU #SmartGlasses #Privacy #FacialRecognition #NameTag #Safety #AI

#Meta plans to add #facialrecognition to its #RayBan #smartglasses as soon as this year. The feature, internally called "#NameTag," would let wearers identify people via Meta's AI assistant. An internal memo noted the "political tumult" in the US was good timing for release, as civil society groups would have "resources focused on other concerns." The feature raises obvious privacy concerns. https://www.macrumors.com/2026/02/13/meta-facial-recognition-smart-glasses/?ARglass.es #ARglasses #SmartGlasses #AugmentedReality #AR
