Off to #GWPopNext! Will there be as many #GravitationalWave candidates as during #NAM2023? A good start with #S230708cf
If real, its source is probably a binary black hole
False alarm rate 1 in 2.0 yr

Another #GravitationalWave candidate to close out #NAM2023: #S230707ai

What is going on in Venus' atmosphere?
QT @Chrislintott
2023 July 6Interesting talk at #NAM2023 from updating us on the discovery of phosphine in Venus’ atmosphere, a chemical which on Earth is produced by life. New observations from JCMT add confidence the discovery is real, though the team are struggling to get time on ALMA, the more sensitive telescope.#astrodon

Apparently we’re calling the Gaia-Enceladus Sausage - a ridiculously-named dwarf galaxy colliding with our Milky Way - GES, pronounced ‘Jess’. An improvement? #nam2023

Been an interesting week at #NAM2023 but frustrating in other ways, we really need to do better at EDI stuff so that the people that need accommodations aren’t the people having to do all the work to make them happen. The LOC and others have been great but also arrrrgh. Still enjoyed getting to chat NRT with people and find out more about the state of the field though so all good!

Qs: could rings form?
Qs: what to hit next?A: material may have got stuck in the system leading to a long-lasting tail. As for next targets: top priority is a search telescope, more kinetic impactors to be decided #NAM2023 #Astronomy #DARTMission #PlanetaryDefense

Ah! Another #GravitationalWave candidate while I was giving my #NAM2023 talk #S230706ah

Heartened to hear that nonbinary students especially are feeling more welcomed and ready for university after doing work experience with nonbinary colleagues #NAM2023

Moving between parallel sessions at #NAM2023. Earlier this morning I was in the far-infrared and now I'm a gravitational wave.

Dhillon - HiPERCAM not has a permanent focus at the GTC, significantly increasing the amount of time available #NAM2023

Dhillon - HiPERCAM observations were a key part of the discovery/analysis of the occultation of Quaoar that identified there are rings around the dwarf planet https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-022-05629-6 #NAM2023

Challenges include lack of standards for sonification and issues with dissemination (journals don't know how to handle sonification, people reinvent the wheel) #NAM2023 #Astronomy
