Spiders (Greedfall, Steelrising) Is Shutting Down Amidst Ongoing Nacon Troubles

Following several rumours, developer Spiders has announced that it is indeed going into liquidation, effective immediately. Based on what I can find, that means anywhere from 70-90 employees will be losing their jobs.

The company’s closure is due to the ongoing financial problems that publisher Nacon is facing, which in turn stem from Nacon’s parent company, BigBen Entertainment. Nacon is currently going through insolvency in a bid to remain open, and the closure of Spiders suggest they could not find a buyer for the developer.

“We’re going to cut straight to the chase so you’re not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated,” said Spiders on their social media.

“We’re sorry that it’s come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.”

The company confirmed that the planned DLC for Greedfall: The Dying World will still release under publisher Nacon.

Spiders never broke into the mainstream, but they never failed to produce interesting games and served one of the most vital roles in this expensive industry: a producer of double-A games, where crazy concepts could be made and enjoyed.
