What's bothering me the most about the recent popularity of nitrous oxide as a drug, is its incredible greenhouse effect
1kg of N2O is the equivalent of 298kg of CO2!! Almost 12x worse than methane
A 2kg cylinder (as I often find over here) is the equivalent of 596kg of CO2, or driving 4260 kilometers!
Absolutely breaks my heart seeing the police release tens of kg of N2O in the air during raids, its an ecological scandal if you ask me

Die (absolut skandalöse) freie Verkäuflichkeit von #Lachgas, also unsbesondere ohne Mindestalter der Käufer und Nutzer, zeigt eindrucksvoll die #Inkompetenz unseres politischen (und gesellschaftlichen) Systems und seiner Protagonisten.

Zhu (Iowa State U): Drainage of wetland prairie in Iowa led to ag land. How does drainage system (intensity & spacing) affect N2O in context of ag systems. Field flux measurements and depth flux measurements => fertilizer pulses N2O flux MUCH (x10+) bigger then freeze/thaw pulse + no drain increases N2O emissions. N2O in subsoil is inverse from surface emissions ? possibly due to microbial community anoxic conditions. Drainage reduces N2O emissions by 8 kg ha-1 yr-1.
