Chapter 11: The Aftermath

Waking up the morning after was no walk in the park. My booty hoe was not only in pain but I had missed a few calls and text messages from Lisa wondering why I didn't go back to the condo after car dealership guy to give my payout to Rain. At first, Lisa seemed pretty pissed off with me, however, she said 'dealership guy' had a great time and wanted to see me again. I went dead silent. 

Kendra...Kendra, are you there? Lisa said into the phone.
Ya.. ya I'm here, I said uneasily. 
Okay good! When can I book you to see Car Dealership guy again? Lisa asked excitedly. 

It was like a spaced out for a moment with ringing in my ears and everything around me becoming blurry. I knew I had to say something but what if Lisa didn't believe me? What if she would fire me for making such accusation and blackball me from the industry? Or worse.. 

Sex workers often do not report rape because they fear arrest, social stigma, police discrimination, and losing their livelihood. The illegal or unregulated status of sex work in many places makes victims afraid that speaking out will result in criminal charges for themselves rather than justice. Many sex workers have a history of bad experiences or abuse from law enforcement. Leading them to not trust the police to help them. 

Law enforcement don't bring a sense of safety they evoke the sense of fear. 

So I guess it was a risk I was willing to take if it meant preventing it from happening to other girls and to blacklist 'Dealership guy. At least that's what I'd hope would happen. Don't you think? 

Lisa... I have to tell you something... I said nervously. 
Whats up! She responded sternly. 
It's about 'Dealership guy... I can't see him again... I said while choking back tears. 

Without having to relive that whole conversation again, essentially Lisa was "understanding" at the time and said she would never send girls to Car Dealership guy again along with a review on Terb. She also said it was cool with me taking some time off.

After that conversation I realized I should make an appointment at the sex clinic to get tested for STDs. Thank god I did because Car Dealership guy gave me fucking Chlamydia! Which didn't help the internal spiral happening inside me. I had to take four large horse pills that made me feel extremely nauseous but would clear it up in one to two weeks. I had never been so humiliated and dehumanized in my life until I met him. 

I felt like I needed to disappear for a while and escape from my own body so that's what I did. 

My English failed me in that immigration interview. My interpreter didn't.

When I froze, she spoke for me. When I stumbled, she caught my words. She didn't just translate — she made sure I was understood.

I passed because of her.

Where Blood Becomes Belonging (My Story on Canadian Blood Services)

It’s in you to give.

Remember that. I used to think of blood donation as an item on a personal bucket list, something noble to do and then move on. I wanted to give blood the way others want to run a marathon or learn a new language. It felt symbolic to achieve that like a participation badge.

Then one day a family member needed a transfusion. At that moment, the idea stopped being abstract or altruistic. Blood was no longer a concept or a charitable gesture; it was survival moving through a tube. I told myself that if someone else could give for my family, I could give for someone else’s. In 2015, I did it for the first time.

Weeks later, a letter arrived. A thank-you note from Canadian Blood Services. Inside, a donor card with my name printed neatly, like an invitation of sorts. I hadn’t expected that. As a millennial, I’ll admit I have a weakness for membership cards. They suggest belonging. Participation. Continuity.

“Recovery”

Hey it’s me, I’m back again.
We used to be the best of friends.
You first met me, then fell in love.
You couldn’t seem to get enough.

That very first time was unforgettable,
Yet it seemed to also be unachievable.
But still, you would try and you would try-
To replace that very first high;
No matter how many people said “goodbye.”

You started making me number one,
More important than any daughter or son.
Oh, how our time always feels so brief.
You are now even losing your teeth…

I now control your life completely.
You do what I tell you repeatedly.
You stab yourself over and over again;
Searching for veins like their friends.

You no longer care how you look.
You’re nothing but a fish on my hook;
Youre my toy, I  refuse to let you go.
My God, how did my story get so low?

You start just trying to OD and die-
Feeling already dead on the inside;
Feeling so fucking alone to the core-
No one answers their phone anymore.

But one day you say “enough;”
I’m tired of trying to be tough.
I can’t do this on my own;
I can’t fight like this alone.

So I kicked you out of my life,
And you took all that pain and strife-
That I had been holding on to for years.
I can’t explain all of the happy tears;

But I still come knocking time to time…
Now I know what to do with your kind.
So I stay as far away as I can;
And I praise my God, that’s my plan.
