Clearing my Dad's garage, I came across a few things I don't recognise.
At approximately 125mm long. The wing-nut would cause the plates to grip something. There's a compression spring between the plates.

@richrollgardener I have a cultivator like that, similar vintage, but much crustier. I'd use it more often, but the handle is too short for me (on my list). I most often use a digging fork, nothing fancy, not retro. I frequently use a Felco #2 hand pruner. Most fun is the broadfork. Easily demolishes the gnarliest turf grass. Here's one I plan to restore this winter and use in spring. It is prob about a century old. Anyone know what it's for?
