I was thinking about giving my homebrew setting more of a Bronze Age spin, and it had me thinking about God-Kings and Demigods who are favored and supported by the divine forces of the cosmos.
My idea was that Sun, Moon, Earth, Sea, Wind, and Darkness are impersonal and distant, but can give divine power to immortal heroes for their own unknowable reasons.
And I think I now finally understand what the Spheres and Immortals of #Mystara are supposed to be like. 😲

This glorious horde of (mostly complete) chaos doggos was going to come howling out of #Mystara Broken Lands. One box of #frostgrave gnolls, one #dnd3e Chainmail demonic gnoll adept, and two huge wolf dudes in … late 90s BDSM leather??? Well, I guess that’s… nah. I got nothing. They’ll get more hit dice. The little guys started out with hyena and dingo colourations but I got bored and just started doing dog and wolf colours.

None of these cultures are exactly like each other or like IRL indigenous peoples of Mexico; they are different enough to seem like foreign countries to each other, but they all look similar if compared to the medieval "baselines" of their worlds.

Also, is it just me or is #Mystara having a bit of a moment right now? #OSR #DnD keep seeing references to it. So weird as I remember the #ADnD 2nd edition release of the setting and it sank without a trace. It is an interesting setting with an interesting history but at the time it felt like it was for people who found the Forgotten Realms too exotic.

The Carnifex! In the old BECMI module Twilight Calling, they were just some sort of super-powerful lizard man. But they were supposed to be some sort of Ur-race that took the Immortals to defeat, so I wanted to depict them as the world-breaking monsters that they are.

Current plans include hacking it for my great #Mystara/ #OldWorld mashup or as an alt-timeline for a time-travel TTRPG. Who knows? I might even want to run #GranMeccanismo as its own glorious #ClockPunk thing.

After I started half-time work on RPG histories in 2020, I had too many things I wanted to do!
So I also started a work on a second project: expanding and regularizing the TSR product histories I wrote for DnDClassics.
I quickly learned that I had many, many books worth of content and settled on initially producing a four-book series covering OD&D, AD&D 1e, BD&D, and Mystara.
I've been putting together one of those a year. So that'll be done next year.
