Pac-Mania (Grandslam, 1988). The Spectrum official conversion of the last pac-man game in the series. A funny 3D perspective (oblique, to be precise) and the bounce power of our fave dot-eater. Four different mazes and a lot of levels with increasing difficulty. Nice scroll of screen as pac-man moves and well drawn graphics. The same thrilling action as the original arcade classic but in 3D

Beach Head (US Gold, 1984). Excellent conversion of the Commodore 64 hit by Access Software. Set in the pacific theater in world war II, you drive an amphibian army through 5 stages, each one can be considered a mini-game. Great gameplay and good graphics but with a low difficulty level. A classic from the early years with an excellent loading screen by F. David Thorpe

Moon Cresta (Incentive, 1985). The first Spectrum game to get the official licence for an arcade product is a faithful conversion of the original arcade by Nichibutsu. Excellent graphics and sounds, smooth movement and very addictive, clearly one of the best space shooters for the Spectrum

Robber (Virgin Games, 1983). You're in a castle dungeon and must look for certain riches kept in a safe. A cute adventure through 3 screens, with UDG graphics and a slow movement but with a original concept that makes it a surprisingly funny game, better than expected

Abu Simbel Profanation (Dinamic, 1985). The third game in the Johnny Jones saga (after Saimazoom and Babaliba) is the hardest. The Dinamic essence at its best. Inside the temple of Abu Simbel our hero must reach the mortuary chamber to be released from his curse and then escape. 44 screens of insane difficulty with excellent graphics. The advice shown at first is vital: wait, calculate and think before acting

Android Two (Vortex, 1983). The second Android game by Costa Panayi is an excellent (and difficult) 3D adventure in which you must kill 5 worm-like millitoids in each maze (3 in total) while avoiding robots, aliens and mines. Great game, a prelude of what Panayi would release later
