Shiro joined them. “I want you to write a story featuring ‘What,’” she said to Ume.

“Ume’s not your sub, Mistress,” Kan-chan said.

“Whatever. If she doesn’t, then you do it.” Shiro’s wicked smile revealed how much she was enjoying this.

Ume looked at Kan-chan: “What one of us should do it?”

“That is improper grammar,” Shiro pointed out.

The author shrugged.

#KonbiniIdol Both Ume and Tomo sometimes get nostalgic about when their relationship was new. Street fairs, idol shows, dumping beer on each other. Back when things were simpler when there were no cults, ghost, or other youkai interfering with them. Tomo might go back if he could, but Ume has Shishi now and there is no going back.

What triggers it? Reminders of their past: Mementos, bits of conversation, dreams, looking at each other.

#MyGirlFriend None of the character are nostalgic. Shiro is the only one with a past that isn’t totally messed up and even she wouldn’t want to go back.

Meiko was a transmasc who came out and was rejected by his parents. His girlfriend, a lesbian, not knowing his gender identification, had frequently said she could never love a man. Meiko interprets this as meaning he would be rejected if he ever came out to her. This leads to Meiko’s ultimate demise and his return as a ghost.

I gave Meiko a real raw deal.
