I think if/when you take the Union and liken it to a confederation/federation, it's fairly easy to make a simple description of how things work. And I think such descriptions should be made. And that we should make such a description. You and I and other teammates.
I also quite understand the underlying causes and reasons why it's being obfuscated.

Why do we, the citizens of the European Union, go to the polls? (That is, those who walk.) It is probably not, or at least probably shouldn't be, an employment / employment relationship / business. It's probably not even fun / leisure activity / what I like / hobby, like paragliding or jogging or a pub with friends or a holiday in Mozambique. It's not even family/kids/apartment/self care like pampering yourself or going to get your nails done...
