  1. How do mycobacteria assemble their highly impermeable outer cell envelope?

In their new bioRxiv preprint, the group of Sebastian Geibel of our LED3 hub has addressed an important aspect of this question. Using cryoEM, they elucidated the structure of two long-chain acyl-CoA carboxylase (LCC) complexes that are key to mycolic acid and complex lipid biosynthesis.

    Congratulations to all authors!

  2. Excited for today's symposium "A Dutch Perspective on Mycobacterial Infections" at the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. I am am looking forward to learning a lot about tuberculosis research in the talks and poster session.

It is an important factor in beetle #immunity and has #BroadSpectrum #antimicrobial #activity #inhibiting the growth of #mycobacteria and demonstrating #multistage #antimalarial activity
The Asian lady beetle uses harmonine as a general hygiene measure, but switches to an effective defense strategy based on dozens of peptides when threatened

  6. CW: The Aldehyde Hypothesis | Heran Darwin

I came across a study* by way of a video** on glutathione that reported increased GSH enhanced mycobacterium clearance. Given that the treatment reduced malondialdehyde - how does this fit in with the aldehyde hypothesis?

I'm delighted to share the news of this #publication in which we show that #vaccination against #paratuberculosis significantly increased cell mediated #immune response #geneexpression in the ileum, and expression of the gene IP10 ( CXCL10) differentiates vaccinated infected, vaccinated uninfected and non-vaccinated infected #sheep.
