「女友」一词在中文中具有很明显的阶级属性，它极少在非知识分子阶层的女性表述中出现，因此它带着一种浓厚的身份色彩；而比「朋友」更亲密的「女友」也指向了作为其内核的「女性情谊」（以及知识分子女性对此的知悉），与「天才」搭配后更能包含那种暗含着较劲、嫉妒但同时也赞许、欣慰的复杂情谊，与作品中两位主角交织的人生无比暗合
这是单纯的「聪明朋友/了不起的朋友」所远远无法涵盖与包括的
