  3. A quotation from Hannah Arendt

The only man for whom Hitler had “unqualified respect” was “Stalin the genius,” and while in the case of Stalin and the Russian regime we do not have (and presumably never will have) the rich documentary material that is available for Germany, we nevertheless know since Khrushchev’s speech before the Twentieth Party Congress that Stalin trusted only one man and that was Hitler.

  7. A quotation from Franklin Roosevelt

The noblest monument to peace and to neighborly economic and social friendship in all the world is not a monument in bronze or stone, but the boundary which unites the United States and Canada — 3,000 miles of friendship with no barbed wire, no gun or soldier, and no passport on the whole frontier. Mutual trust made that frontier.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882–1945) American lawyer, politician, statesman, US President (1933–1945)
    Speech (1936-08-14), Chautauqua, New York

  11. A quotation from Montaigne

A good marriage, if there are such, rejects the company and conditions of love; it strives to show forth those of friendship. It is a calm fellowship of life, full of fidelity, of trust, and of an endless number of useful and substantial mutual duties and obligations.

  17. A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt

I believe in national friendships and heartiest good-will to all nations; but national friendships, like those between men, must be founded on respect as well as on liking, on forbearance as well as upon trust. I should be heartily ashamed of any American who did not try to make the American Government act as Justly toward the other nations in international relations as he himself would act toward any individual in private relations. I should be heartily ashamed to see us wrong a weaker power, and I should hang my head forever if we tamely suffered wrong from a stronger power.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American politician, statesman, conservationist, writer, US President (1901-1909)

A conversation amongst #Kpop fans included this mention of the variety of fans and the importance of inclusivity and mutual respect in the fandom here on Mastodon - qualities sorely lacking in some other Kpop spaces.

Anyway, that part of the conversation reminded me of the history of inclusivity and mutual respect, which in turn set me thinking about religious "toleration" in early modern European history, which in turn reminded me of the Edict of Torda in the Transylvania of 1568:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of

I was going to finish there with a pronouncement of "There's a lot more to Transylvania than Dracula!" which is true, but, on reflection, a bad note on which to end because it sounds smug and condescending.

Yes, early modern history is fascinating, anybody who can visit Transylvania should do so, and "toleration" deserves much attention from both a historical and philosophical point of view - but shouldn't I be more alive to today's interest in vampirism and to goth subcultures ? Shouldn't I remember that, in the words of @pixelcats, "all ways of stanning are valid" and that includes the stanning of Transylvania too?

From Kpop to C16 Torda and back again!

  32. “If you don’t defend your people, you shouldn’t lead.”

I respect the sentiment, but here’s the truth:

Leadership isn’t blind defense — it’s built on mutual trust.
If your people don’t stand with you, how do you defend them?

Just like in cybersecurity, one trusted vulnerability can cause damage.
In leadership, it’s the same. Loyalty must go both ways.

    Good for you. Very nice.

I meant, of course, that original posters should put their videos where they are best seen.

Some may like putting their videos on several platforms.

I'd start putting them on Mastodon, which accepts very large videos, or Peertube.

Research yourself which platforms to use for your vids.

This temp gig I'm working is essential supplemental, so I would endure the overtime even with a bad fit. But my team mate is a godsend and I am so thankful 🥰 #MutualRespect #gigwork

I've tapped a few people for emotional support, and I chose correctly who to confide in. I cried today, I needed to cry.

I am not alone! I have assembled a support network, I can rely on different people for different areas of advice/listening. I have now demonstrated that I can use it.
