It's a great mix of using the things that work in the franchise, and omits the things that don't.

On this day 12 years ago in 2012, "Prometheus" premiered in the UK.
The marketing campaign included the (now defunct) viral site WeylandIndustries.com which allowed many bits of information to be uncovered. Neat to see that trade at "ISX" under the stock exchange.

This will be my final wishlist item for this year.
Ron Cobb was in charge of the Nostromo set from Alien (1979), and had the idea that every label on has to have a clear meaning and purpose. Thus, the "Semiotic Standard" and eventually this keyboard were born.
This was $74 last year, it's $188.54 now. Inflation is a thing with dollars, and adjusted dollars apparently.

The USM Auriga in Alien Resurrection isn't as well known as the USCSS Nostromo or USS Sulaco in Alien or Aliens, but it's a great design.
One common theme in the Alien franchise is that all human ships, regardless of what century they operate, seem to have minimal crew onboard.

On this day 26 years ago in 1997, Alien Resurrection premiered in North America.
It wasn't as well received as Alien or Aliens, but after a re-watch, I can say it certainly has a fair share of body horror.

Ian Holm has played numerous noteworthy characters in his career. In 1979 everyone knew he acted alongside Sigourney Weaver in "Alien". Ash was a memorable role, but he also played lesser credited roles in science fiction.
I've recently re-watched "The Fifth Element" and his portrayal of Father Vito Cornelius is also fun to watch.

Both Aliens and Total Recall use flat screens depicting idealistic scenes of nature. These scenes were futuristic for their time.
It's worth noting that something which seemed so futuristic back then have now become commonplace.

The Tactical Operations Center (TOC) on the M577 armoured personnel carrier (APC) in Aliens is pure cassette futurism. ECG, BCG, EEG, and EOG readouts with real time camera video from Marines displayed on CRT monitors are a great aesthetic.
Behind the scenes, the M577 was built on Hunslet ATT77 which was used in real life to tow aircraft. Only four were built.

There is a lot going on in the Weyland Yutani boardroom scene in Aliens.
First, the seats are just car chairs with the headrests removed.
Second, one of the board members is more focused on completing his crossword puzzle rather than listening to Ripley.
Finally, Styrofoam cups and cigarettes are certainly a very prominent thing in the future.

In honour of Alien (1979) turning 44 years old, I've posted several bits of trivia. Alas, this post will be the last regarding Alien for a bit.
The wiring which is visible when Ash is decapitated includes simple Foley catheters with some balloons inflated. The "blood" itself is coloured water, with milk used for some close-up shots. Pasta and glass marbles are used to fill out the effect.

There are large parts of Alien that have a fantastic atmosphere, almost a chill vibe, if you can overlook a giant Alien running around.
One of those scenes is when Dallas has to go through a specific access procedure to use MU/TH/UR, held in a secure room.

I'll be posting a some Alien clips or random bits trivia over the next few days, like this one: 44 years is a long time, but Ripley was in hypersleep for 57 years between the events of Alien and Aliens. Think of how much our world has changed since 1979. For perspective, as of this writing it's 2023, imagine waking up in 2080.
