Day 25, and the final day of our original block of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game today. We ended our first foray into this series with Dynasty Warriors 8, and man if nostalgia didn't keep DW3 at the top of my list, 7 would only be bested by 8 for the top spot. 8 is solidly a fantastic entry to the series, and one I will probably return to in the future.
For today, though, we have to leave this block a bit unfinished, as from here, there were a few lost VODs of us playing through Tekkit, before I stumbled upon a modpack that felt quite close to home...
For those who have stuck with this first block of #ThreeKingdoms adventures, I thank you; it has been a blast revisiting this series I held onto fondly from my childhood, and one that I am currently revisiting once again. If you're hungry for more, and can't catch a Sunday Stream, the VODs will be available soon enough.

Day 17 on our time loop through the fall of the Han Dynasty, and today we're looking to finish up the Kingdom of Jin in Dynasty Warriors 6, marking the end of the console-exclusive ports of the games in this historic series. Like the Jin transitioning from the first era of the generation-spanning conflict, so too does Dynasty Warriors 6 cross the boundary between classic Musou titles and the modern era.
After we finish up here we'll be in for some fun next gen titles with 7 and 8. Fair warning, though, we were only able to stream one session of DW8 during this block, but fear not, for that is not where the VODs end for this series...

Day 14 on our Dynasty Warriors journey, and today we finish up Dynasty Warriors 5, closing out Wei's musou with the heir to the throne, Cao Pi, as our character of choice. From there we jump over to Dynasty Warriors 6, with Zhang He leading the charge this time around.
It's still wild how much Dynasty Warriors 6 shakes up the formula, decidedly marking the shift between the classic era and the modern era of these titles. The Renbu system, the removal of the weapon combo moveset, the condensed weapon pool, it's all just so different. It's why I still regard 3, 4, and 5 as their own thing and rank them separately from 6, 7, and 8.

Day 13 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game, and we're back with more Dynasty Warriors 5, diving back into Xing Cai's musou once again, and whoo boy do we have a rough few missions ahead of us today...
I have never been this stuck on a singular mission before, least of all during these VODs. Xing Cai's final mission is brutal, mixing in ambushes and difficult reinforcements during an escort mission with an incompetent leader. Ironically, the most successful strategy I employed involved keeping him with me during the bulk of the fight, as then the game was forced to actually force combat to play out properly rather than the simpler simulation based on morale and dice rolls when they're away. Because I was able to keep an eye on Liu Chan, his chances of survival were much higher following me around than if you brought him back to base like you're instructed to. Even with this strategy, the mission still took literal hours to overcome.

Day 12 of our adventures through the Three Kingdoms via playing every Dynasty Warriors game, and we're back with Dynasty Warriors 5 today, continuing where we left off with Long Tong's musou, before switching over to Xing Cai and her bident of merciless destruction!
These more personalized storylines are definitely an interesting change for the series, though I'm glad Koei returned to the kingdom-wide musou structure in future titles, even with the compromise of switching characters between each battle. This structure gives each character their chance to take center stage and tell their own story, especially the more characters that are added that are among the "lesser players" of the larger narrative, like Ling Tong and Xing Cai.

Day 11 of our journey through every Dynasty Warriors game today, and it looks like we're finally finishing up Dynasty Warriors 4. I'm surprised we spent this long on 4, considering how much I prefer 3, although to be fair there's not as much to see in 3.
Either way, we're on to Dynasty Warriors 5 now, and here's where we really start seeing the formula getting iterated on. The immediate change is that musous are not per kingdom, but rather we get to play through each individual character's journey through the larger story being told. This gives a much more personal and intimate perspective (as much as one can in a beat em up of the time), and while I'm sure young UZ did not appreciate this change, I can say as an adult that it's a nice change of pace.

Day 10 today, finishing up Wei's musou in Dynasty Warriors 4 as Zhang Liao before we show off Lu Bu's "What If" musou as our custom character.
As fun as it would be to go rampaging as the man, the myth, the legend himself, Lu Bu does make things pretty easy and boring. Plus, this way we get to show off our cool new OC, and he's even comes with our boy Gan Ning's moveset, which is hands down my favorite from any character/title in the series.

Day 9 of our journey through every Dynasty Warriors game, back at it again with Dynasty Warriors 4. Now that we've cleared Shu & Wu's musou, it's on to Wei's, and what better way to compare each title than going back through a character we've played as previously.
We'll be playing through Xiahou Dun during this musou, not only to compare his mechanical differences, but also because Dynasty Warriors 4 added in the map where Cao Cao confronts Lu Bu, wherein Xiahou Dun loses his eye to an arrow. We can't miss the defining moment in his story, so we need to make sure we get that cutscene to show off!

Day 8 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game today, and we're back with Dynasty Warriors 4 today, this time with a NPC-turned-playable character, Zhou Tai, who is portrayed as this pirate samurai dude, which really vibed with little UZ. His moveset is still fun to play with, and his musou animation is great for knocking down other generals, assuming they don't block the start of the animation.

Day 7, continuing to play through every Dynasty Warriors game, still on Dynasty Warriors 4, you know the deal.
Even though you could play as characters from the minor factions in previous titles, 4 was the first to actually add musous for these characters. You finally got to see several What If scenarios such as "What if Lu Bu didn't get captured and executed by Cap Cao, and instead used his prowess and strength to ultimately unite China instead?"
Later entries to the series would allow these characters, just like the main cast, to have their own musou as well, but the "what if" portion was reduced in favor of historical accuracy. These earlier games were a neat departure in allowing the player to explore alternative histories in such an important time in China's history.

Day 6 on our journey through every Dynasty Warriors game, and today we're back playing more Dynasty Warriors 4.
While we wouldn't get the individual musou storylines yet, this game does do away with the 4-tier weapon system per character and instead every character simply levels up their weapon from level 1 to 9, before finally unlocking their unique weapon which grants them level 10. I'm honestly not really in favor of this system and I'm glad this is the only time we have to deal with it.
Otherwise, this is still a fantastic entry to the series, once of the best of the classic era of these games!

We kick off this week with day 5 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game, and today we actually shifted over to Dynasty Warriors 4! 4 was interesting in that, as far as I'm aware, it's the only one of the mainline series here that let you create your own character that is given it's own music mode, which obviously we show off at some point.
This title brought with it quite a few refinements to the formula with new combat mechanics, mini-objectives within battles, and even the ability to duel another officer 1-on-1.

Day 4 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game, which means more DW3 today! One thing that has objectively aged poorly but subjectively has aged like fine wine for me is these cutscenes. I'm sure the original dubs of them are fine, but man these English dubs are rough.
I will say, though, the amount of hidden cutscenes they added in for when you play through Free Play mode with characters that shouldn't be doing the things you're doing is fantastic. Having Yuan Shao find his own supply compound in Guan Du, or Zhang Jiao (the shaman leader of the Yellow Turban Rebellion) refuting the trickery because he "doesn't believe in magic" will never not be funny to me.

Day 3 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game, and we're back with more Dynasty Warriors 3 today. Something else I've loved about these games has to be the soundtrack, what starts off as a fusion of eastern soundscapes and western rock evolved into more modern eastern rock. Each stage's accompanying background music fits the tone of the battle that takes place within it and as a piece of video game music, really drives the hack & slash gameplay forward.
The entire collection of soundtracks are available online, too, and hold their own as Eastern Rock albums!

Day 2 of playing through every Dynasty Warriors game, and we're back in DW3 today. Honestly one of my favorite games from my childhood, this series has all the charm of this early 3D console, the rough polish of early translations and voice acting, all of it.
I remember collecting all the unique weapons for various characters, and while this title was a bit more grindy when collecting weapons, having high-end items helps bring new characters up to speed against higher difficulty levels. Newer titles helped lower this curve a bit by sharing lower level weapons as well, but we'll get to those titles.

This game is legitimately one of my favorite games of all time, the series as a whole has been a blast to play through (as we'll soon see over on the VODs channel, keep an eye out!), and I cannot wait to boot this up on the #SteamDeck and revisit it!

Kolejne cudo wprost z Japonii – wydanie premium #UtawarerumonoZAN2. Jak można się domyślić, jest to sequel do ZAN, a skoro poprzednik na nowo opowiadał historię znaną nam z #MaskOfDeception, to ta część bierze na warsztat #MaskOfTruth.
Z ciekawostek – ZAN zostało wydane na zachodzie wyłącznie na PlayStation (fizycznie i cyfrowo). Premiera na PC planowana jest dopiero na 2025 rok (na Steam). Tymczasem ZAN2, mimo 3 lat od swojej japońskiej premiery, wciąż pozostaje niedostępne dla zachodniego gracza.
Pod względem samego wydania – trzyma poziom poprzednich. Gustowne matowe pudełko, zabezpieczające skarby w środku. Poza grą, tym razem nie dostajemy artbooka, a... więcej akrylowych standów 😂 Na mniejszym z nich możemy podziwiać Rulutieh.

Zacznijmy od uzupełnienia kolekcji japońskich wydań premium o dwa nietypowe tytuły z uniwersum. #UtawarerumonoZAN nie jest ani prequelem, ani sequelem żadnej z części trylogii. #Aquaplus wziął historię opowiedzianą w #MaskOfDeception i opowiedzieli ją na nowo, ale tym razem w formie gry #musou 🙃 Jeżeli #visualnovel.e są u nas gatunkiem niszowym, to co dopiero powiedzieć o tym?
Efekt jest... ciekawy? Fabularnie niestety doszło do ogromnych cięć, ale muszę przyznać, że np. ataki specjalne dorobiły się naprawdę pięknych animacji.
Wydanie premium, klasycznie, w pięknym pudełku, z matowym wykończeniem. Akurat wszystkie gry z serii #Utawarerumono to małe dzieła sztuki pod względem opakowań. Poza grą, znajdziemy w środku między innymi artbook w miękkiej oprawie.
Ciekawostką – w artbooku znalazłem kilka materiałów, których obecność nie ma większego sensu w odniesieniu do historii w ZAN 🤔

Miałem wczoraj okazję przetestować #Utawarerumono #ZAN - czyli spinoff głównej serii, opowiadający wydarzenia z #MaskOfDeception w zupełnie innym formacie. Jest to gra typu #musou - czyli rzucani jesteśmy w wir walki z setkami przeciwników jednocześnie. Prawda, że zupełna odmiana od #visualnovel.i jaką jest główna seria #Utawarerumono ?
Przyznam, że jest to forma niespecjalnie dla mnie interesująca, a dodatkowo sama warstwa fabularna - mimo, że wykorzystuje te same wydarzenia - została dramatycznie spłycona, więc uwaga - potencjalni nowi gracze powinni się trzymać jak najdalej, przynajmniej do czasu poznania trzonu serii!
Na szczęście na #PS4 dostępne jest demo (zwane wersją trial), w której możemy wziąć udział w jednej takiej potyczce, mając dostęp do kilku predefiniowanych postaci. I jakkolwiek nie zaiskrzyło, to jedno muszę przyznać - finishing moves są tu przedstawione CUDOWNIE ❤️Niestety nie pochwalę się nagraniami, bo #Mastodon nie chce przyjąć plików mp4 🤦🏻♂️ Ale z pomocą przychodzą oficjalne materiały od wydawcy 👇🏻
