  1. Trying #ProjectM again. Which basically is the good old #Winamp #MusicVisualizer.

Is anybody using this live on stage with #Linux?

There used to be a decent GUI frontend to it, but it went down some open source drain. I even had used that live and via screen capture, some minor snippets had ended up in a film that was shown in a movie theater. But that GUI has gone nowadays.

So I have #projectMSDL now, but I don't know how to access a preset directly. I could copy a selection to a different folder and then step through. There's nothing too practical… there's hundreds of presets, some are astounding, most are annoying. There isn't even a command line option to open one specific preset file only.

Since ProjectM is open source, there are many projects using it, such as #VLC, there even is a module for the #vcvRack #synthesizer, yet this also doesn't win a prize in preset selection and it can't show a full screen window.

  6. VJing tools thread: Please give me your recommendations!

I'm looking for (ideally open source) tools that react to a sound source and provide some pretty colours and (3d) shapes.

I'd like it to be hands off in as far as I can create a playlist or a sequence for it to shuffle through. Some control with midi would also be acceptable.

I currently use github.com/vcync/modV along with Plane9 plane9.com/. Plane9 is run through wine so is not ideal.

  7. the variety of successful ways audio and visuals sync together in this is stunning. even with a computer now 76 (!) years later this would take a ton of hours of work.

  8. I was interested of what other music visualizers are there and I decided that I try out one of them that I have not tried yet. I choose XAVA out of the many and I must say it looks pretty, probably it's one of the prettiest out there. I have known about XAVA for a long time, but never took the time to actually try it out before.

  9. "Song Pong" a music visualizer that uses the videogame Pong UI to synchronize to music.

    This. Is. Cool.

(The code is also open source so 2x cool!)

  10. untitled9

Started working on this in 2022. Lots of quarter tones, but I think they're used pretty smoothly here.

    Thanks for listening,

  11. Sometimes I like having something like this just to help me visually orient to the different parts of a song. It's a nice road map, and makes it easy to find parts I want to hear again or compare with something else.

This particular tool is SonicVisualiser (sonicvisualiser.org/), which is both free and #OpenSource.

Here's some music I've written for the game 'Being and Becoming'.

The concept art for this particular area in the game is absolutely stunning and really inspired me- it has a sort of classic beauty to it and is very dream-like.
