y'all, literally every time I try to make a purchase on Bandcamp, my card declines it because of how they process payments (I asked my credit card company if they could blanket accept them, and they can't).
@subvertworld, however, works perfectly!! Yet another reason to join the cooperative Bandcamp successor!
I've really been digging this playlist: https://www.subvert.fm/@howtoescapeacult/for-revolution-vol1

I wanted to suggest to my friend that he play a native artist instead of Paul Revere and the raiders Cherokee Nation, which merely uses the image of native American folks to sell records for white people. then I realized my hypocrisy in that I did not know any native artists (a tribe called red didn't really match the vibe)-- can I get some #musicrecs so the next time I come up on this situation I'll have something to say other than a finger wag?

what are some good summer tracks from the 2000s and 2010s? this is for a patio playlist that ppl on our block will hear passing through the alleyway, so ideally nice, non-weird stuff

The new Nine Inch Nails/Boys Noize collab album is phenomenal. Started listening to Soft Cell from the original cover version, the rework takes it up a level.

Air For Petronella by Medusa Quartet
Photo by Artūras Kokorevas: https://www.pexels.com/photo/shadow-of-hands-on-the-wall-11360061/I went to see a cello player with my sister, Raphael Weinwroth-Brown one evening. I’ve seen him once before after my sister told me how amazing his music is. There was an opening quarter before his performance, Medusa, and their songs were beautiful as well.
One that stood out to me – and probably everyone there – is a song called ‘Air for Petronella’. Before playing this beautiful piece, they told us the meaning behind the song. It’s about an innocent girl who was tried as a witch in Ireland. She was completely innocent of the accusation and was the first person in Ireland to be burned at the stake for witchcraft in Ireland. She was accused due to being a follower of Dame Alice Kyteler who was charged for witchcraft – all of her associates were deemed guilty as well, including young Petronella. Kyteler fled for her life, leaving Petronella to be flogged and burned at the stake for the crime of “heresy”.
Saskia Tomkins composed this melancholically beautiful piece after reading about this true story. She couldn’t sleep one night, upset about the injustice toward an innocent girl, and wrote this song for the quartet.
https://youtu.be/LZzs3WJQUw8?si=OMCCA4lq_yxRZHl9
As they played the beautiful but sad song, almost everyone was in tears. It’s a deep sadness for Petronella herself, and for everyone who has been put to death for doing nothing wrong. Fanaticism has claimed many lives and shows cruelty to anyone who appears to be a threat to it.
It’s a sobering reminder of how many women (and some men) suffered throughout history for being too wise, too knowledgeable about science, for challenging current beliefs of the time, or simply being in the wrong place. This has been on my mind a lot since I saw this played live, and wanted to share it with you all.
Medusa is an independent quarter based out of Toronto. Go Canada and live music!
This song is a kind tribute to Petronella.

What is some HEAVY heavy metal with crispy/clean guitar vs grungy/sludgy; any vocals but maybe not full screamo, and not-super-dark lyrics? (Asking for my little sister who is even more... nerdy and introverted... than I am! lol)
-
Being brave with this little introduction post lol.
Typically I hate the way my voice sounds recorded, but I think it's good to get out of your comfort zone every once in a while! Also I forgot to add that I really enjoy music!! Leave me some recommendations of your favorite songs/artists!

Took a break from music production the last couple of weeks and realised I don't listen to enough new music anymore.
Anyone got any good recommendations?
I like energetic, spacey or dreamy electronic music (especially dnb adjacent stuff) please recommend your own albums or tracks if it fits that vibe, would love to connect more with the work of artists who are active on mastodon or the wider fediverse.
Feel free to boost too if you can help reach artists I should listen to.
