Last week I took a trial #guzheng lesson and today I am off to pick up my very own instrument with all the fixings, because I certainly needed another hobby I don't have time for. I'm very excited!

It's my second day learning to play music in about 30 years. I was never successful, and only tried for a few weeks in the past.

I started on day 1 by learning to play one very short melody.

Are there different music theories I should consider for learning? I'm thinking specifically about associating the notes and motions in my mind.

Should I focus on music theory first? Should I focus on getting my technique first?
Or should I just focus on enjoyment first and then refining it later?

I know I should get a music teacher

But I also know I can't afford it for months.

I'd rather spend more time with a teacher if I have too when I can afford too, than once again giving up on playing because I have no money and might pick up "bad habits".

I bought an easy melodica tune book to give my neighbor to help them learn.

But it's going to be too difficult for them.

It's got few pages at the front that describe music notation, then it's just full of tunes.

I am sure when I learned I spent months just getting the hang of the notation and very simple melodies, with the learning of the theory interspersed with learning the physicality of playing.

Oh well let's see how it goes.
