Excited for The Midwest Clinic in Chicago. "North To Race Point" was selected for performance by the fabulous Jordan HS Symphony. This 125-member orch. is from the Houston area, and they’re spectacular. Congrats to them on being selected to perform.

My latest for string orchestra is Agita. As the title suggests, it's an anxious little ditty. With lots of important dissonances and a liberal use of the "Bartok snap," it was a lot of fun to write. Hopefully it's fun to play. The funny(?) thing is, I just looked at the calendar, and exactly one year ago I completed Positive Energy for strings. Hmmm… maybe I should turn off the news for a while. 😬

Miss Admiral Gordon’s Strathspey (William Marshall ) is a 250 yr. old strathspey dance tune. Named for the Strathspey region of Scotland, the strathspey dance is a popular form of country dance, usually in 4/4 time and slower than a reel or jig. It is characterized by the use of the “Scots Snap" rhythm — a sixteenth note followed by a dotted eighth note, or in reverse order.

Second day of semester. Ran 25km. Next, lecturing for 7 hours out of 8. However, I need you to know that the first 4 hours include a mindfulness meditation & then making music with loops in a DAW. Having to clean out the classroom for the end of summer break and heading into the new school year is definitely bittersweet. I truly didn't expect to enjoy working with the younger grades as much as I did (had a mixed 7/8/9 y/o overflow group) and it's really caused me to reconsider my approach to sticking with secondary school music classes!
I might be moving down to second or third grade next year...
