HOW TO WRITE MUSIC WHEN YOU'RE EXHAUSTED. I keep it simple, put my trust in everything I've learned so far, and that it will somehow manifest itself when I open my DAW.
When my energy level is low, I'll end up with a boring 4OTF groove that tells me everything I need to know: Not a good day for music.

This could still go either way – do I keep the sparse #HiroshiYoshimura vibe, or do I start adding some glitches, deep Blade Runner 2049 bazzz + restless percussion, and go all Zimmer?

Still just three instruments in – all the pad-like sounds that come and go are bounced, tuned and stretched from the flute track.

And I'm off – this is actually quite brilliant! I've just spent a couple of hours fine-tuning four variations on an 8-bar melodic phrase, and a corresponding pedal tone pulsing every second bar – with the same instrument, no less.
There are not even any chords yet – under normal circumstances, I'd be knee deep in string block chords, modulations and arpeggios left and right by now... and almost certainly some timpani and/or Simmons toms.
