We were visited by Maria Hackl, a #music #archaeologist, who shed light on a fascinating recent discovery:
a small medieval bone flute. While there are many depictions of #medieval instruments, it’s far less common for the original objects to survive. Instrument makers used materials that were readily available — This flute was likely made from the leg bone of a goose!

🎹 Behold the riveting saga of redundant links, missing pages, and ancient technology! 🕰️ Marvel at the University of Illinois's homage to those bygone days when listening to music required a PhD in archaeology. 🤦♂️

It's also interesting to note that none of these tracks have the highly recognizable Korg Wavestation presets, which was released in 1990. But hey, perhaps the synth was released in December.
Anyway, I suspect there was a delay in the way this kind of music was published, and if I were to make a similar list for 1991, the Wavestation would be all over the place.

This story didn't get much traction, but it's certainly in the top five stories I'm most proud of.
If anyone wants to commission me to write a book about #MusicArchaeology, please don't hesitate ;)
