So, I was reading about 19-year-old Stokeley Carmichael, who spent 49 days in a Mississippi prison during his time with the Freedom Riders, and how he was beaten and abused... but raised the morale of his fellow detainees by singing this song, aimed at the white prison guards.
So, this led to this classic version of an old spiritual, by Brownie McGhee.
