As a reminder, in 1941 Japan conducted a surprise attack without declaration of war. As of 2025 Russia is indiscriminately bombing military and civilian targets in #Ukraine for three and a half years already, so how what kind of “surprise” would you expect here?
The only common part is that Russia, just like Japan, did not declare war on Ukraine at the time of attack. Japan did it the following day, Russia is afraid to do so since 2022.
P.S. there’s a certain irony in the fact that that in Japanese planning documents the attack on Pearl Harbor was codenamed… Operation Z 😂
