#Ramblers petition to allow #access to the #Chesthill Estate hills.
Chesthill has been a festering sore for access for decades. But they are now attempting to close all access through the winter contrary to Scottish Access rights.
A signature to the petition would help show the strength of feeling about this issue. Thanks! https://action.ramblers.org.uk/end-blockade-glen-lyon%E2%80%99s-hills -
University of Glasgow - University news - Hillwalkers urged to help with historic meteorite recovery efforts
"Hillwalkers setting out to bag a Munro are being asked for their help to bag a meteorite too, as scientists race against time to recover precious samples of a space rock which lit up the skies over Scotland this summer."https://www.gla.ac.uk/news/headline_1211034_en.html

Walking to Loch Toll an Lochain in the corrie nestled beneath the ridge of An Teallach. Of the three walks when I was staying in Dundonnell, I think this was my favourite. A gorgeous day, a remarkable landscape, and not a soul around. It was somewhere rather special. A brilliant place for lunch!

A walk up An Teallach in May. But not to the top. Because I looked at the drop and then the climb to the first munro, and thought, "nah, not today..."! (I have climbed it before - the whole ridge!)

This is a view of the snowy Cuillin range here on Skye. Although over 20 miles away from us they are a powerful presence. There are 12 Munros in there.
Munros in Scotland are mountains 3,000 ft (914.4m) or over.
“There are in total 282 Munros across Scotland. The highest Munro is Ben Nevis at 4,411 ft (1,345 m), though there are lower, but arguably more challenging Munros to climb, such as the 12 airy peaks of the Black Cuillin on Skye..”

Navigating by compass in the mist across a featureless shoulder, peat groughs and patches of sheet ice meant a straight line was impossible.
I've been playing this game for 40-something years, professionally since 2010, but when the mist thinned and my target ridge appeared dead ahead, it's still a wow! moment.
Still got it haha. 🗻

Another overnight with Moray, Maoile Lunndaidh above Glen Carron. A long walk in and out, whichever route is taken, from Craig it's a good track to the foot of the hill.
Definitely autumn now, dark soon after 7 & not light til 7. Cooking and eating by head torch, but nice enough to sit outside the tent & listen to the stags roaring. Great to get a couple of days summer conditions in October.
And that is Moray now photographed on all his Munros. -
For any new followers who are here for the incredible views up Scottish Munros - today was less spectacular 😆 #munrobagging #Munros #CisteDubh

Sensational day up Sgurr a’ Mhaoraich today, cloudy and damp up to 700m and then bam! #munrobagging #Munros #scotland

From earlier in the week:
Sgùrr na Lapaich was included on Munro's original list, but was subsequently demoted and is now just a top of Màm Sodhail. But it's a great hill in its own right, and at 3½km along the ridge from Màm Sodhail there's a good argument for reinstating it.
We took our time as it was a hot day, and spent a while snoozing on the summit.

Taking advantage of this spell of summer weather, did a few of the Mamores from Glen Nevis with Moray yesterday. Western Highlands of Scotland.
No apologies for the landscape porn, there’s ridges in every direction.
- Steall Bridge.
- Am Bodach and to its left the ridge we walked earlier.
- Looking to Sgùrr a'Mhaim.
- Sgùrr a'Mhàim from the ascent route.#Mamores #GlenNevis #Scotland #HikingWithDogs #DogsOfMastodon #Kelpie #Munros

Finally some warm settled weather, so two days and an overnight with Moray doing a couple of Munros in the Central Highlands, Creag Meagaidh and Beinn a'Chaorainn. The two hills could easily be done in a single day, but the overnight camp gives us some dog-and-dad time.
And sat outside the tent in the evening with no midges, amazing for August in the Highlands.#Munros #Scotland #Highlands #HikingWithDogs #DogsOfMastodon #Kelpie

I wanted nicer looking maps for blog posts about hills.
In a good example of one of my "fun little projects" getting totally out of hand, I now have a full basemap of Scotland on my website which shows all the hills in my own hand-crafted style.

The Saddle (plus 3 outlying Tops) and Sgùrr na Sgine in Kintail. Took 2 days with a high level camp at the bealach between them, so as to get some Moray-and-me time.
- Looking west from The Saddle towards the 3 outlying tops we went over.
- the trig point on The Saddle.
- Sgùrr na Sgine summit.

Yesterday was the first day with proper summer weather for a while, Moray and I did a couple of Munros north of Loch Laggan. We heard some thunder in the distance but it stayed hot sunny and dry for us, until torrential rain on the drive home.
Càrn Liath and Stob Poite Coire Ardair.
Central Highlands, Scotland.- Looking back to Càrn Liath.
- Coire Ardair.
- Stob Poite Coire Ardair summit.

Imposing Ben More on the Isle of Mull, complete with its own weather system. This is the only Munro (individual mountain over 3,000ft high) not on the Scottish mainland or the Isle of Skye. More pics and info about the Isle of Mull: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/mull/mull/index.htm
