  1. so far, i've tried four muds:

    - #t2t: interesting, but… somehow bland'ish, shows age;
    - #mume: very interesting, but very difficult to play without a mapping client, and those ruin atmosphere;
    - procedural realms: best interface, but pointless, fun for teens maybe;
    - #aardwolf: unnesessarily complicated interface, and lacks atmosphere (or rather the on it has is not my style at all).

    i still have hopes of finding something…

    suggest me smth?

  3. …one exception: descriptions of the lands around the old white tower (in a 3-5 «cell» radius) mention the tower visible at some distance, closer or further off, to this or that direction! i could navigate the lands around with some effort and attention to details, and it was by far the best experience i had with #mume apart from the intro scenes with #gandalf! loved it.

    but i can see how most people spoil their mud experience by opening those mapping clients and skipping descriptions :-(

  4. …you have killed mudding :-(

    up to this point i really loved #mume, it's one of the best i've seen! the intro with #gandalf — it is terrific! interactive, atmospheric, well-written, loved it!

    but! one just can't play effectively with static location descriptions that only show very scarce information and give practically no hints for long-distance navigation. there was one notable exception during my yesterday session: …

  5. other thing: playing #mume today using the suggested web client or #mmapper is NOT at all like playing muds in the olden days. trust me, i've played like ~ 20 years ago. today it seems like cheating — hell, it is cheating! you get a map (!) that's open from step 1, contains lots of hints and outright spoilers and kills the atmosphere :-(

    here's an examle:

  6. ok, i could not actually give up without at least understanding the basics. so i spent the whole day learing the ropes while playing #mume:

    mapping with tintin++ is… mostly manual. it can be scripted for a given #mud, but _that_ does require a degree in programming and a lot of time and patience.

  7. Command injection via PDF in Markdown Preview Enhanced (VSCode, Atom)

    #Mume: Powerful markdown tool vulnerable to vulnerable to command injection

  8. @greyor also, if you want to play a #MUD again, my SO @Siiw still enjoys playing #MUME (Multi-Users in #MiddleEarth) every now and then, and afaik that is still going pretty strong: mume.org:4143/Client/
