Last year, we actively engaged in the WSIS+20 review process. Among the many civil society contributions, this article highlighted the importance of diverse voices. Treating non-state actor input as an add-on is not enough. We need more inclusive and accountable multilateral governance!

Listening to this sweeping talk by @pluralistic I can't help but see parallels to the #HackerManifesto
There's a glimpse at a different #DigitalWorld in addition to a thorough criticism of current trends.
"A post-American Internet"? The talk shows that the #Internet and #Cyberspace are far from elusive, untouchable realms but instead are very real in terms of #Power. The digital world is very much shaped by the US which for years has unsettled other states and puts further strain on the #Multistakeholder approach, which in the words of Milton Mueller was enacted specifically to make sure, no one government would dictate the rules of the Internet.
Really interesting is the observation, that we might be at a tipping point for #DigitalGovernance. A new coalition emerges thanks to #Trump, bringing together such different groups as Digital activists and national security hawks for #DigitalSovereignty

In Internet Governance, does #multistakeholder mean much when "third sector" is heavily funded by, and many "government" entities are heavily lobbied by the "corporate sector" (where big tech weighs heavily)?

My summary of #AI discussions at #IGF2023:
AI is a general pupose technology that will impact everything BUT might also be dangerous. We do not want to miss this opportunity, so we need to harness it properly. Because we need buy in and support, we need a #multistakeholder approach.
Multistakeholder means big industry who are to be catered to, so that our country can compete internationally; and sometime users, who talk about how scared they are and bring their "concerns ". -

#Multistakeholder sounds nice and fair.
But in the domain of state-sponsored governance forums, it tends to imply something deeply sinister:
#Multistakeholderism is when they invite the wolf to the lambs' table to democratically vote on what's for dinner.
Therefore:
#Multistakeholder debates on public interest issues must be viewed with skepticism as to their legitimacy.
And supplemented (or better supplanted) with alternative forums from civil society.

Also, the phrase "#multistakeholder" issues pertaining to the internet perpetuates a dangerous (and rather irksome) myth.
There are no "multistakeholder" issues pertaining to the right to free and open int'l telecommunication.
That's just a code phrase for usurpation of public interest.
Even though civil society does consist of multiple stakeholders, that's not what this means.
