Im Oktober 2024 berichteten wir über einen Streit zwischen Matt #Mullenweg, #CEO von #Automattic und Mitbegründer sowie Chefentwickler von #WordPress und dem WordPress-Hoster WP Engine. Bei dem Streit geht es um Mullenwegs Vorwurf, WP-Engine profitiere seit vielen Jahren vom quelloffenen WordPress, ohne selbst viel dazu beizutragen, wie Mullenweg in einem Blogeintrag im September ausführte.

What Matt #Mullenweg and #Automattic is doing to #WordPress is evidence of why #OpenSource software projects—*especially* at the scale of WordPress—need more democratic governance, not less. They need to be structured so that it's not possible for one person's ego to destroy decades of trust built up in the product. The #accessibility fights over the block editor in 2017–2018 were a harbinger, it seems. Something I'll be keeping in mind on any open source project.
