  1. Yet another mug I must have for the collection/mug museum.

  2. There was that time during the 1970s on a family trip to Minnesota when my dad, born and raised in Chicago and absolutely no stranger to White Castle when he was a kid there, introduced my brothers and me to the phenomenon. Some years later, I was at a White Castle in the Minneapolis area, I think it was, and just had to add to the mug collection.

  3. Today's #coffee is #Hyperion's Ariel Funez Natural! They don't mention it anywhere for some reason, but despite being labeled as natural, these beans go through a 24-hour #anaerobic ferment, which really brings out the flavour! ☕⏳️✨

  5. I love watching the reactions of people who come into the newspaper office and I just happen to be diddly bopping by with a coffee cup like this one.

  6. Current mood. There were so many great lines in the series “Justified.” I’m looking forward to “Justified: City Primeval” later this year.

  7. Something I picked up a few years ago at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison, Wisconsin; a salute of sorts to the Union Army’s Civil War-era Iron Brigade.

  8. Today’s coffee mug here at work: my best friend and battle buddy in Iraq when deployed there in 2004 these days is a bourbon writer based out of the Louisville, Kentucky, area. Fred Minnick’s the name and almost 10 ten years ago, he got me started on a bourbon appreciation journey. In moderation, of course.

  9. The coffee mug of choice today is one I picked up years ago when I worked for a Deere dealership in Kansas. Was there for about seven years, first in the parts department and then back to service administration. While employed there, I developed the habit of acquiring toy tractors, this one, an 8870 four wheel drive, a Christmas gift for my son Ryan in 1995 or ‘96. After he was KIA in Iraq in 2006, I took custody of it. It’s here with me in the office each day.

  10. Today’s coffee mug here at the office is another of the “Fab Four.”

  11. The coffee carrier here at work (at least, for this first part of the morning): a carry out cup from Great Northern Coffee Traders in Minocqua, Wisconsin, filled with some “foo foo” coffe, white chocolate mocha. Of course, I also just had to get a blueberry muffin and chocolate chip muffin. It’s in a Dixie cup that has Sustainable Forestry Initiative on it and the plastic lid goes into the recycling bin when I’m done with it.

  12. Today’s cup of choice here at the newspaper office: an item my folks picked up for me several years ago during one of their visits to the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and featuring the Boeing B17F Flying Fortress known as “The Memphis Belle.”

  13. I’ve shared this one before but ‘tis the current mood!

  14. I’m at the office today, the official observance of New Year’s Day in the U.S. and it provides an opportunity for the first cup pic of the new year: another item I picked up at a model train show in Minneapolis a few years ago. It was about the time a newly restored Union Pacific “Big Boy” was to tour parts of the U.S.

  15. 2/100 is an incredibly special #mug. It was a gift from Dale Dougherty, the cofounder of #OReilly (and founder of @makemagazine), whose #books I've been obsessed with for as long as I can remember.

The Whole Internet User's Guide and Catalog, by Ed Krol, was a 1992 guide to the online world, its name an obvious homage to Stewart Brand's Whole Earth Catalog.

  16. The cup of choice today here at the newspaper office filled with my special blend of good, strong Army coffee: I’m about to embark on the editing (marking up) of a young reporter’s story for the next edition

  17. Today’s coffee carrier of choice here at the newspaper office is something given to me by my youngest boy and his wife following the birth in February, 2015, of their first son and my first grandkid, Ryan David Jopek ll, named for my oldest son who was KIA in Iraq in 2006.

  18. The coffee cup of the day here at the newspaper office: I don’t recall where I got this one but damn if it doesn’t reflect the current mood comin’ off a three day weekend.

  19. Off work today, I had some coffee and then some hot tea: this is one of my “tea cups” here at the house, something I picked up in Seattle in March of 2008 at the first Starbucks which opened in 1971.
