Happy places
This isn’t a #dogwalking post, but it’s directly related to my last one, about piccabeen palms.
(https://aus.social/@infinite8horizon/109645334084380033)Natively, they grow in one of my happy places, the hinterland rainforest at Mt. Tamborine. It was one of the first National Parks I visited after moving to Queensland. I’d never seen anything like it before, and fell in love with it on the spot.
It’s a place of immense calm and quiet, yet filled with small, private noises, cool air and dark shade, the canopy far overhead filtering out most of the light.
An entire ecosystem of piccabeens is quite different to one or two in a garden, they grow enormously stately and tall, the trunks forming a dense vertical forest that’s imposing, yet not heavy, like large trees, dense and yet sparse. It’s hard to describe if you haven’t been there, with the cool smell and the damp quiet and the small streams trickling.
