**Climbing Rescue on Mount Shasta – Avalanche Gulch**
On Sunday afternoon, U.S. Forest Service Service Climbing Rangers responded to a rescue involving a 31-year-old female climber who suffered a serious fall while ascending the Left of Heart variation of the Avalanche Gulch route on Mount Shasta.
The climber, part of a group of three novice climbers, fell approximately 1,500 vertical feet, from around 13,000 feet to approximately 11,500 feet, before coming to rest on the mountain.
At approximately 12:00 p.m., Lead Climbing Ranger Nick Meyers was notified by the Siskiyou County Sheriff Search and Rescue coordinator of the incident. Three U.S. Forest Service Climbing Rangers responded with assistance from the California Highway Patrol.
Due to cloud cover, the initial helicopter insertion was limited to 50/50 Flat. Climbing Ranger Falconer then ascended on foot to reach the patient, assisted by one member of the climbing party who had descended to help carry rescue equipment. A fourth climber, who happened to be in the area, also stopped to assist the injured climber and remained with the group throughout the rescue.
The patient was found alert, in good spirits, and suffering from a suspected fractured right ankle along with additional injuries consistent with the significant fall. After being stabilized and packaged in a SKED rescue litter, Climbing Rangers Falconer, Jordan, and MacArther, along with members of the climbing party, carefully lowered the patient to Lake Helen.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol helicopter safely extracted the patient from Lake Helen and transported her to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta for further medical care.
This incident serves as an important reminder that Mount Shasta is a high-altitude mountaineering environment, not a hike. Even experienced climbers can encounter rapidly changing weather, steep snow and ice, rockfall, and hazardous fall conditions..." -
Mount Shasta seen on an outbound medical transport. One pic was with a Nikon D850, the other with a Iphone 14+. Both taken and processed the same. Which is which? #MountShasta #MtShasta #ipnhone #nikon #D850 #photography #cvvhrn

LA Times: Mt. Shasta hiker plummets 2,000 feet down glacier to his death
"...California’s famous and fearsome Mt. Shasta has claimed another victim — a 45-year-old Argentinian hiker who lost track of the trail and slid around 2,000 feet down the face of a steep glacier...."

CW: another synchronicity
Weird coincidence - last night I was trying to fall asleep and tried to meditate, but I had some problems with memories of past events surfacing. In the middle of this, apropos of nothing, the word 'shasta' popped into my head. I was like - what does this mean? Am I supposed to go to Mt. Shasta? Or buy the soft drink - I don't think they make that anymore... Then the cat came to snuggle and I fell asleep finally. Then I wake up and I listen to Olbermann as I'm making breakfast and - there it is again - Mt Shasta. Am I supposed to go there - it is a really beautiful place, I wouldn't mind, though I guess it would be pretty expensive to live or even visit there. But .... it's a volcano....

Shasta Storm
This picture was taken on one of those magical fall days that you just have no idea what is going to happen or where. I was on a trip driving south out of Oregon. An early winter storm enveloped Mt. Shasta.
Mt Shasta is one of many volcanic peaks in California and is at the southern end of the Cascade Range standing at 14, 179 feet. Today’s adventure painting is an actual plein air done at Mt. Shasta City Park, home of the headwaters of the Sacramento River! (Also home to many hippies lol.) Painted with GENUINE HEADWATERS WATER, that’s as Mt. Shasta as it GETS 😂🤣😂

There’s still plenty of snow on Shasta but the warm temps are taking a toll. I was fortunate to just spend five days in a row guiding on the mountain and am looking forward to returning. #MtShasta #california #cascades #skiing #backcountry #backcountryskiing #splitboard #volcano #volcanoskiing #lemurians

Great crew for the Shasta Mountain Guides Level 1 avalanche class this weekend. We found deep snow and interesting conditions on the mountain.
