The Transformers 3P (both licensed and unlicensed) obsession with Tarn is so wild to me. This is not everybody’s favorite character from when they were a kid, this is a guy who first showed up in 2012, in comics books which are generally objectively the best but least-recognized form of Transformers media, he hasn’t shown up properly in anything else (no I’m not counting Cyberverse as properly him), and the only way you can legally read the stories he’s in is to shell out a bunch of money for back-issues because they’re no longer in any form of print. Sometimes he has a small adorable friend for reasons that are not clear unless you’ve read the latter half of these stories. And everybody wants to take a crack at making a figure of him.

Hrm, we do have at least a few IDW Transformers appreciators on the Fediverse now, maybe tomorrow I’ll dump a bunch of fanfic-in-progress thoughts at the people who will understand sentences like “When you pull in Chromedome as your main canon character for a story, you’re signaling certain *themes*.”

CW: Transformers MTMTE Microfiction
"I just find it...disingenuous." Ultra Magnus frowned as he tried to get comfortable on the small barstool. "Mixing Energon with common materials and other fuels, then reselling it for nearly three times the price."
"It's not just about the Energon, it's about the company!" Swerve raised his arms, and his voice, gesturing as though the bar were full of bots. In reality it was just the two of them. He lowered his voice slightly. "And plus, there are some really cool mixtures you can get from mixing even the most basic ingredients."
Ultra Magnus didn't respond except for raising a ridge. "Do these 'cool mixtures' enhance efficiency? Do anything aside from inhibit the crewmembers' judgment more than regular Energon?"
"Don't be such a square, Magnus. Just because all you've ever tried are weak Energon spritzers doesn't mean that--" Swerve's optics flickered to a glass of Visco on the counter, and he grabbed it, pouring some for Ultra Magnus, adding some mineral supplement in a perfect amount. He didn't even have to measure at this point, he was so used to making a V-boot.
Ultra Magnus hummed. "'Square'. Never heard that one before. Has Bluestreak been making you watch human television again?" Had Magnus said it in a more jesting tone, Swerve almost would have thought he was trying to tease him. He decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and grinned back at him as he handed him his drink. "Here. Just--try it."
Swerve wondered if he'd push the glass away, but to his surprise, he took the glass in one hand, examining it slightly before drinking it. Swerve watched him, trying not to make his nervousness too obvious as he tried to make out Magnus' imperceptible expression. The fate of his bar did kind of depend on how much the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord liked his drink.
The bartender thought he could see a slight shift of Magnus' facial plating before he turned away from him, punching something into a datapad.
"Alright. I'll consider renewing your bar license for another...four chords. Fair?"
Swerve held back an excited holler. "YES! Sir." He added after Magnus appeared lightly annoyed.
"I expect that in exchange, you keep this place organized, don't allow patrons to fuel in excess, and don't allow it to distract you from your other duties on this ship." Ultra Magnus turned to leave through the hatch.
"Hey...was that a smile I saw you making before?" Swerve called out.
Magnus paused before responding. "And don't give Rodimus a reason to make you complete another sponsored silence." He exited the bar before Swerve could say anything back.
Swerve grinned. He knew what he had seen.

I should know better than to start re-reading the #Transformers #MTMTE/ #LostLight comics with the assumption that I can just read one issue at a time. It's binge or nothing with these stories.
Don't even care. You can debate what the "best" TF stories are of all time, but MTMTE/Lost Light is unquestionably the most fun this franchise has ever been. Gimme that epic space opera with a side of romance every time.

I'm gonna finish this reread of IDW's Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye/Lost Light and folks I am going to write SUCH an essay about queerness, not just in the context of same-gender romance but in the fundamental idea of a power structure built on forcing people into roles based on biology and the injustice of that.

After the war, Tarn’s crimes were judged to be so heinous that execution was considered unacceptably lenient.
